Steps for setting up SharePoint 2013 on the same domain as SharePoint 2007

    Question

  • Does anyone have the steps to follow to set up SharePoint 2013 on the same Domain as 2007? We are upgrading all of our servers, Exchange, etc. And because of the differences between 2007 and 2013, we don't want to be forced into upgrading to SharePoint 2013 until we can figure out how the new version of SharePoint has changed since the 2007 version

Answers

  • unlike Exchange, SharePoint generally does NOT make changes within AD (one exception: the user profile service application can be used to update the 'website' attribute with the location of the users' mysite). Running them side-by-side is perfectly fine and generally requires no special consideration during installation.

That said, general IT considerations may apply... for example, you shouldn't expect the same hostname to go to both farms, and for the computer to magically know whether the URL should go to the 07 or 13 farm.
