hyperlink to network file

    Question

  • I'm trying to hyperlink to a folder on the network.  It's actually an external hard drive but it's got an IP address and I can map to it.  It will not connect when I make an mde out of my access dbase.  I get the message "cannot open the specified file".  I'm guessing it has something to do with it being external storage because I can hyperlink to other folders actually out on the network itself.  Any suggestions?

  • Hi TAK,

You may use a ound character in a file name for a hyperlink, please check this article:

In addition, what's the type of your Access applicaiton and how did you use the hyperlink in it? Could you show me some code snippet?

Here is a thread about the similar problem for you to reference:

  • Mike, I create the hyperlink by selecting the hyperlink button on the tool bar and just found the location of the folder I wanted to be hyperlinked and the system creates the link.

Looks like it's working now.  When I looked at the properties of the hyperlink it was giving me the following address:  ..\Lab%20Submissions

I went in and manually changed it to:  X:\Lab Submissions  And it now works correctly when I convert the front end to an mde file and deploy it to other users.  Looks like it has something to do with the way access creates the hyperlink when I let the system generate/insert the hyperlinked address.

    Thanks for the help!
