How to switch Outlook 2013 to offline mode

    Question

  • Hi,

    I'm using Perl API (Win32::OLE) to work with Outlook.

    This command works for switching to offline mode in OL2010: $explorer->{CommandBars}->FindControl(undef,5613)->Execute();

    However it's not working with Outlook 2013.

    Any idea ?

    Regards

  • Command bars have been deprecated since Outlook 2010. Instead of using the CommandBars property of the Explorer and Inspector objects, use ribbon extensibility to customize the ribbon and to customize any menus and submenus off the ribbon. Ribbon extensibility requires an add-in that implements the IRibbonExtensibility interface.

    If accessed, the Explorer.CommandBars and Inspector.CommandBars properties will return null. To customize the user interface in Outlook, use the IRibbonExtensibility object and the RibbonX extensibility model.

    Hope this helps.

  • As updated earlier, the above code uses command bars which have been deprecated since Outlook 2010. Instead of using the CommandBars property of the Explorer and Inspector objects, use ribbon extensibility to customize the ribbon and to customize any menus and submenus off the ribbon  to implement similar functionality.

    Sorry, i am not aware whether you can do the same using Perl API or not. Also, If you talk about Classic Offline mode and it's deprecated in Outlook 2013. You can refer more @ http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-outlook/archive/2012/12/19/outlook-2013-deprecated-features-and-components.aspx.

    Hope this helps.
