Using multiple files in a mail merge

    Question

  • Hi,

We'd like to e-mail some testing documents to our students.  We have a contact list with student e-mail addresses that we can link to as recipients, but in the body of the e-mail we'd like to insert information from an Access Database that matches that student.  Is there a way to use multiple files on a Word 2010 merged document.  We could include the student e-mail in the Access database, but I'm not sure how to do an e-mail merge that way instead of using a contract list.  Any ideas?

  • A mail merge must have a single data source.

If you include a text field with the e-mail address of the students in the Access database, you'll be able to specify the field in the final steop of the mail merge process, when you're going to send out the e-mail messages.

  • Hi Nancy

The better place for you to ask this, I think, would be on the Answers site:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/word

Your question does not seem to involve a problem with how to use the object model (programming) so much as how to work with Word's end-user functionality. You'll find many more people there who work with Word and mail merge than here, where the discussions are more about programming.

FWIW I agree with Hans's suggestion that you'll find Email as a merge "destination" in the last step (far right in the Mailings tab of the Ribbon).
