I am trying to install Visual Studio 2011 Developer Preview under Windows XP SP3. I have all service packs and updates installed. I am getting the following error when attempting to install it:
"The Procedure entry point FLSAlloc could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."
Please advise.

I believe the reason that windowsXP doesn't get supported anymore due to the new framework, and that the developer preview of VS11 only allows you to create metro style apps (which is a very Windows8 thingie).

Hi Master VB Guru,
Like other community members said, the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview only support Windows 7 above OSs. You'll need to upgrad to a higher version of OS in order to install Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview.
Thanks for your understanding.

There has been no official announcement from Microsoft (nor is there likely to be before RTM), so any responses you get will be guesswork.
Please understand that the currently available pre-beta developer preview is the only public release so far. When public betas become available, we will all know more.

As for it running on XP I can say for certain that no, even in the RTM Visual Studio 11 (IDE) will not run on Windows XP. It definitely does not in Consumer Preview either.
However for XP targeting (CRT and MFC 11), even though it doesn't work now, there's still a lot of voting going on to get it to be supported, see:
