    Hi,

I want use accelerometer in my windows 8 metro style app in a way that it when i tilt my tablets down ,some of my app element say a ball  moves rightwards.I run the sample on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/xaml/Hh465272(v=win.10).aspx to get an idea.we have one option called simulator in debug option but nothing i can do with the emulator running after then.Clicking on "simulator" does nothing more than showing default things till my current state.how do i do things like tilting my tablets right side down????

I am not getting exactly how do i give inputs like tilting of tablets or shaking of it???

    Regards,

    Hello Sushma,

I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue.

    Thanks.

    Sushma,

Have you tried the inclinometer sample?  Are you programming in JavaScript or C#?  In JavaScript Blend works really well for inclinometer, simple orientation, compass and gyro.  Hitting F5 and running the application works for all sensors.  In C# blend does not interact with the sensors.  However using F5 and running the app will work.

    Sushma,

Are you wanting to have Blend or Visual Studio 11 simulate a sensor?  Or do you have an actual sensor or device with a sensor that you would like to write a Metro style app for? If so which device are you using?

    Eric Hanson,

I am programming in c#.and i want to use accelerometer such that some of my elements of my game say a dice moves right side when i tilt tablets rightside down and similar for other direction movements and also light shaking of tablets to a get a random number on the dice.

I haven't used inclinometer so far.

    Thanks

    Sushma Rai,

We do not have a sensor simulator.  You would need an actual sensor to test your application with.  Do you have an external or internal Windows 8 sensor?

    Eric Hanson,

No sir I don't have any external or internal windows 8 sensor.Means i can't test such apps.any other resources or alternatives for it?

    Thanks.

    Sushma Rai,

I am unaware of any simulators on the market that would allow you to test this without a sensor.

ive also found this to be an issue when developing metro apps because the tablet simulator doesnt seem to simulate any of the tablet features including orientation as i have tried the orientation samples which are meant to display the current tablet orientation but it doesnt work in the simulator just like tilt and turn doesnt work which makes it very hard to create and test apps which use these features.

cant the simulator be modified to fire these events? the external sensor must use some software or drivers to fire a accelerometer events so wouldnt it be possible to perhaps add some multi-directional arrow buttons around the simulator to simulate accelerometer usage for example pressing the left arrow would simulator tilting the tablet to the left and so on.

think of the popular game cut the rope where to play the game you must turn the tablet to guide the flame in the direction of the rope how would one go about creating such a game with no way of testing sensor input?

    Amy Gx,

very true.I don't think this issue would have been unnoticed by the developer.Windows 8 is meant for touch-sensitive devices and it is pretty natural to think of orienting a device for the current computing experience. It is much more interacting than touching a device.people get completely involved when they use such orientations or tilting say if we play a game.Looking for the urgent modification in the final release of visual studio 2011.

The Windows Phone emulators have Tilt Simulation, so we can test our WP7 tilt and orientation Applications, without a device.

Not having Tilt sensor representation in the Visual Studio Windows 8 Simulator is just plain dumb.  - I am surprised that Microsoft are so slow on realising this.
