PowerPivot database error

Hello,
I just installed Excel 2010 and PowerPivot on a XP SP 3 PC. When I tried to get external data I am getting "PowerPivot database error: Table name '<table name>' not found in the current table collections." This occurs when querying against a SQL database and a text file. Same error is generated when creating a linked table. The verision for Excel 2010 is 14.0.6023.1000 and PowerPivot is 10.50.1600.1.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Challen,
I am new to PowerPivot. This is the first time I tried to use it. I can connect to the database successfully using SSMS. Also, when I use PowerPivot to get data from SQL server I was using the Table Import wizard which was able to connect to the database successfully as well. The error occurred after I selected some tables from AdventureWorks database and clicked finish. I tried different datasource and received the same error. I also tried to create a query which validated fine, but still the similar error - "PowerPivot database error: Table name '<query name>' not found in the current table collections.
Thanks.
Jennifer

I downloaded Office Professional Plus 2010 with Service Pack 1 (X86 and X64) and PowerPivot for Excel 2010 (X86) through my MSDN subscription. For Office, I installed Excel, SharePoint Workspace, office shared Features and Office Tools on a PC which is XP SP3. Excel 2010 was installed side-by side with the existing Excel 2007. The verision for Excel 2010 is 14.0.6023.1000 and PowerPivot is 10.50.1600.1.
Thanks.

Hi,
Have you had the Office fully installation? Before install add-in for PowerPivot, Office Shared Features must be installed with Excel 2010. When installing Excel, you do not need to select any of the items under Office Shared Features, but the parent folder must be selected. Selecting the folder adds Visual Studio Tools for Office to your installation.
Thanks,
Challen Fu

Hi Challen,
I installed a newer version of PowerPivot (10.50.2500.0) and it solved the problem. Thanks for all your help. (The version I had before was 10.50.1600.1).
