How to suspend Sharepoint State Machine Workflow.

Question

I want to suspend my sharepoint workflow. I used "suspend activity" in toolbox but it wasnt work. My workflow went directly on completed status. I tried to catch Workflow instance for suspend but i couldnt. Please tell me how can i do that...Thanks lot...
