I've been all over looking for a solution to this but can't find one. We have an external user (non employee) using an external URL to access a SharePoint library. When that user attempts to check out a pdf file (using their local drafts folder) they get the following error prompt:
The user is using Windows 7, Office 2007 & IE9 32 bit. We have also had the user add the url to their trusted sites. All to no avail of getting the file to download to the local drafts. I am not sure if this is an issue with our Alternate Access Mapping settings, since some research has led me that way. We have our interal url http://sitename.com setup in the default zone and then our externally registered url http://www.sitename.com set in the intranet zone.
We have two WFE one of which is setup specifically for external users to login to with accounts we created in a DMZ ad area.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
According to my analysis, the reason for your issue is related to the AAM setting.
For the detailed explanation about this issue, check out the following article:

Does this apply even if we aren't using HTTPS in our URLS?

Hi,
Yes, you need to pay attention to the following:
Internal address - The address used by Proxy to contact SharePoint server
Note: Ideally the internal address should not be used by users to browse the site, it should be used only by the proxy to contact the server.
This will avoid lot of confusion that happens when the AAM needs to be changed when the address for browsing the site changes.
External/Public address - Used by users on the internet
Company Network/Private address - Used by users on the private / company network
