    Hi,

I am very new in sharepoint.. I tried to install sharepoint foundation 2010 in windows 7 based on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kySfihm5kMc and success...

but after i run sharepoint central administration they prompt for username and password that I never put it by installation before..

So I don't know from where this username and password comes and what should I put in there?

Take a look at the walkthrough on my blog.  You should log in to central admin with the same userid and password that you used during installation.  also if you are using IE make sure that the address sharepoint sites is included in the Local Intranet zone in IE.  Otherwise you will be prompted to login.

Use the account that you were logged in as during installation.

    Paul.

You can't log in or you are getting prompted to login?  If the site isn't in your local intranet zone (or trusted sites zone with adjusted security settings) in IE then you will have to provide the userid and password to login to the SharePoint site.  But the account you used to login to Windows 7 should be a farm admin and have login access to SharePoint.  That doesn't mean the login will take place automatically.

    Hi Paul,

What do you mean by local intranet zone? Did you mean "localhost"? Because I just install sharepoint on my own laptop and after the installation, they open the browser and go to url http://putra-vaio:34813/ and prompted me to login. I tried to login with my windows account but failed. So I dont know anymore using which Account I should login.

    Note: Putra-vaio is my computername.

The address you are using should already be in the Local Intranet zone, but take a look at the following article for an explanation.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572939(v=office.13).aspx

You should be able to login with whatever account you used when you installed SharePoint.  Be aware that if your laptop is a member of a domain you will need to use the form of Domain\userid when logging in.

Simply use your windows account name and password.

Yes that's my problem, I tried to log in to sharepoint with my windows account but failed (the browser still always prompt me to log in), even I use the form of Domain\userid.

Is it possible to check somewhere maybe in IIS, what account has been created to log in in central administration site?

Secondly, when I installed sharepoint but I didn't specify a password once I logged in to windows, do I also need provide the password to log in in central administration site after sharepoint has been installed? will the browser prompt me to log in?

The account used to log in to Central Admin will be the account you were logged in with when you ran the Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard.  There is nowhere you can check in IIS to find that account.

When you logged in to Windows 7 are you saying you did it without entering a password?  Which version of Windows 7 are you using?  Although you can get SharePoint running on Windows 7 Home it is quite difficult and full of problems.  Its not technically supported on anything less then win 7 professional.  So if you aren't running on windows 7 Home make sure that you have Windows 7 setup to require a password login and then re-install SharePoint.

    Hello Paul,

I am using windows 7 professional. Yeah I did setup new account with password and re-install sharepoint but still cant login with it :(

When I checked my sql server database, I didn't find any table assoicated with Sharepoint. Is this might be related to my problem?

Windows 7 Professional should work fine for SharePoint 2010.

Can you see if you get any additional error details in the LOG file, which can be found at below location of your computer:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\LOGS

Also please share the screenshot of your browser where it is asking you for the login details.

You seem to be using Firefox to access your SharePoint website.  Can you give a try with Internet Explorer and see how it goes?

Is this installation on your local machine?  If so, could you try logging in as .\administrator (assuming you have the administrator account enabled, and the password), and see if you can get in that way?

This is really strange! Such behavior should not happen.  Are you sure that you are using the same User ID / Password, which you are using to login to your Windows operating system?

In your earlier screenshot, you had highlighted the .LOG file.  Can you open that and refer for any further hints on this problem?

    I tried using :

    wapt49 and "mypassword"

    and

    .\wapt49 and "mypassword" to login

What suppose to be happen after sharepoint installation on windows 7? It prompt me to login like i got, or usually it doesn't prompt to login?

    Hi

I was getting exactly the same issue. That is I installed sharepoint foundation on windows 7 and after installation, I was prompted for username and password when trying to log to central administration. I am not not connected to any domain and I have only one user (same like wapt49)

    The following resolved my problem

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572939(v=office.13).aspx

I added the link of the central administration site to the Local Intranet site (step 6) and it fixed the issue. I'm no longer prompted for username and password

    Hope it helps

    Ranish

If it prompts for a login you should login using the account you used to install SharePoint in the form of ComputerName\LoginName (if the account was not a domain account) or DomainName\LoginName ( if it was a domain account).  I suspect you used a local account rather than a domain account for the install.  The other problem might be if you Windows 7 accounts don't have passwords.  Passwords are required for authentication in SharePoint, even if they aren't required in Windows 7.
