    Hi everyone,

Looking for some help with the cellular emulator.

We have developed a program running on the Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK device platform. The program needs to access internet web sites and web services using GPRS, so thought using the WM6 device emulator together with the cellular emulator would initially be the best way forward.

So we have setup both the cellular emulator and device emulator to use GPRS for internet connectivity in accordance with the various instructions that can be found here on MSDN. So far the configuration appears to be OK because the cellular emulator shows outgoing calls in the Active Calls pane and the Data Channels pane shows GPRS as connected in addition to data bytes received and sent.

The problem arises when we attempt to access internet web sites using GPRS. The status bar shows "Locating..." for a few seconds followed by the message "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." However, we can access pages from web servers (IIS) on our local network without difficulty. Furthermore, if we cradle the device emulator, the activesync (or in our case the Windows Mobile Device Centre) network connection takes over and we can access internet web sites without difficulty. So, the internet connections from our local network must be OK and the urls for the sites that we are trying to access must be valid, or so we assume...

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? Any help would be appreciated. We have spent some time looking through posts on this forum, but so far have been unable to find an answer. We are using VS2008 and Vista and have applied all of the available service packs.

    Regards,

Did you test this on real machine? I guess some application take the emulator's port causes this problem.

    Hi All,

OK - after a lot more investigation I discovered that the GPRS connection to external sites works if I install Virtual PC 2007 onto the PC hosting the emulator. No additional configuration is required. I would be interested if anyone can explain why this should be the case, as so far all instructions about using the cellular emulator and connecting via GPRS do not mention this as a requirement.

    Thanks,
