질문Outlook 2003 Email Headers not Printing after IE7 upgrade

    Does anyone know if there is a fix for this yet?  It seems to be major issue without any reliable work around other than hitting forward button then printing the email.

    I too have the same problem.  I have a small network of users.  All of my Outlook 2003 users with MSIE 7 have problems printing the email headers.  On the other hand, I have Outlook 2003 users with MSIE 6, and no problems printing the email headers.  I have another group of users that have Outlook 2002, and MSIE 7, and they can print the email headers.

    Proof Positive this problem is related to Outlook 2003, and MSIE 7!

    After some testing, I’ve discovered that if on the emails that don’t print the headers you first switch to landscape mode, they will print the headers correctly. To do this:

    1. Click on File and choose Page Setup
    2. Choose Memo Style
    3. Select the radio button for Landscape
    4. Click OK

     This setting will be for this email only and only until you close it. The default setting will still be Portrait for other emails. This will at least let you print the missing header information on these random emails until Microsoft releases an official fix for it.

    Check your version of .NET. If you are still running .Net 1.1 then install .NET framework 2.0. That seems to have fixed the problem with me. Looks like some of the code is designed for 2.0 framwork.

    I resolved this problem by going into FILE.PAGE_SETUP and found that the email was in letter format rather than A4. I swapped this and it printed ok after that. I did actually try printing it in ladscape prior to Portraite but it worked boith ways.  Hope this helps

    What sloughboy means is:

    1. With the message open, Click on File

    2. Go to Page Setup and click on Memo Style

    3. Switch the paper size to A4

    I have found that increasing the left and right margins in IE7's Page Setup to 0.625" (or more) from the default 0.5" also seems to solve the header printing problem. 

    If you are printing on letter-size paper, this avoids the problems that come with switching the paper size to A4 -- in my case, needing to adjust the bottom margin to prevent overrunning the page length, as well as needing to manually authorize the printer to use letter-size paper each time that an A4 print job is sent to the printer.

    Hello!

    Disable Tabbed browsing, then restart IE7 & Outlook 2003.

     

    That should allow you to print headers again...

    well - we are in the same boat, but none of the solutions seem to help.
     
    Near as we can tell it is only external HTML emails that are having the printed header eaten.  Tryed all of the above solutions/work arounds - nada.
     
    XP Pro with IE7 all around here... with the users printing their emails and moaning (sigh)

    Jumping to the same boat as the rest.  External emails formatted as HTML are not printing headers.   As luck would have it, the first person in my organization to discover this was the CEO - Doh!!

    Hope Microsoft is listening.

    I don't have any emails that wont print the headers right now so maybe someone else could try this. I thought I read somewhere that this had something to do with the header being in a FRAME or something. What if we tell IE that it's o.k. to launch stuff in an IFRAME? Is this a big security risk?

    To try it:

    Click Tools > Options > security tab > zone settings > OK to the warning > Custom Level > Enable Launching programs and files in an IFRAME
    (set to disabled by default)

    If someone can try this and let us know what the result is it may help with figuring this out.

    Well - we temorarily got around this by checking the 'read all standard mail in plain text' (tools->Options->email options) in Outlook 2003
     
    we only did this for the few users that REALLY needed to print the info. 
     
    I know it is only emails from outside our company that come with (maybe) an HTML format.  Hope these tidbits help.

    I have been speaking with Microsoft on this issue for some time now (according to the IE 7 support team, they were unaware of the issue) and they have not been able to get a solution.  If I manage to get anywhere with support, I will try to post the results.

    Have client w/ XP Pro SP2 & Outlook 2002. Same issue... Of the above, here is what did and didn't work...

        Changing to 'Landscape' - worked

        Already on .Net 2.0 - Upgraded to 3.0 - didn't work

        Change to A4 - worked

        IE margin wider - already defaulted to .75 - didn't work

        Disable Tabbed Browsing - didn't work

        IFRAME - no attempt...

        Text only not acceptable...

    Resolution... Uninstall IE7!!! ALL broken programs now happy again...

    I've noticed that if you save the e-mail to the HD then open and print it, it prints the headers.

    What I've found is that any html formatted emails have to be converted to another format.

    1.  
    2. With the message open, on the Edit menu, click Edit Message.
    3.  

    4.      On the Format menu, click the format you want to use (Plain Text, HTML, or Rich Text).

    This worked for me - see if it works for any of you.

    I noticed that out of two html emails, one would print the header and one would not. I noticed also that the email that was not printing the header was marked as "Importance = High" while the other was marked as "Importance = Normal" - both were marked as confidential. I figured I would try changing the importance level to normal on the message that wasn't printing the header to see what difference it would make and it printed the header! I tried changing it back to "Importance = High" and the header didn't print again. To do this you have to first click on Edit and choose Edit Message. There will be an importance drop down - change it to Normal.

    I'm not sure what this tells us but, it may at least let some of us print the info until there is an official fix for it. I did notice that the fact that it is marked as Importance - High was displayed in a grey box when the message is open. Perhaps this is somehow related to what is causing the problem.

    My boss (the CEO) came to me with the same problem.  We tried everything we could think of, and finally he sent the email to himself, then it printed properly with the header.  What a pain!  Hope Microsoft comes up with a fix soon....  wouldn't you think they'd test this stuff before they release it??????????

    I cannot believe everyone here accepts Microsoft’s folly with such acquiescence.  If not fixing this by now is some ploy to force the purchase of Outlook 2007, then Microsoft should be hung out to dry.  What with the Vista fiasco, I’m considering selling my MSFT shares before it’s too late . . . MICROSOFT BETTER BE LISTENING.

    My impression is that the header is being removed to squeeze the body onto one fewer page than is really necessary. I have done some fairly extensive testing that demonstrates to my satisfaction that this is the case for affected emails in my organization. It explains why changing margins works for some emails but breaks others. The like is also true for changing font sizes (changes how much text fits one page) and forwarding the email to another person (adds to the text that must be printed).

    I have taken to adding several carriage returns to the ends of emails that do not print with headers. This fixes the problem for those emails. I wrote some VBA to automate this. If there is interest, I will post it.

    I tried all the same things that were mentioned above, none worked, except for uninstalling IE7.

    Luckily enough for me, there aren't many in our organization that love to kill paper, so I only had to deal with the accounting staff.

    Hi all, please could someone help me?

     

    I have a similar problem to the one that is mentioned here.  Sent items don't print the date and time sent but Inbox items do.  I suspect this is because when i hit reply, the message composes in HTML as this is the format that it was sent to me in and the IE7 upgrade would then explain this.  Would you consider this to be a similar problem and is there any way around this as I would like to use HTML?

    I gave microsoft a call in th UK 0870 60 10 100 and received an email after provided the Article ID 931657.  This hotfix when applied seems to work for me.

    I have the opposite problem....

    I have hundreds of confidential emails that I have to print on a regular basis.  I only need to email body and not the from, to and subject of the email.  In Outlook 2003 I could do this fine but now I have upgraded to Vista and Outlook 2007 I can't find any way to turn the header print off. 

     

    Any ideas?

    Actually, we tried this in my company with one of the users having the same problem. Well, the fix didn't work. Not only it doesn't print the header, it also prints a semicolon where the email header should be.

    It only seems to effect emails that come in with html format or when html is set as the default email editing method... if it is rtf or or plain text written emails seems to be fine... if there is a fix- someone let me know.

     

    Here's my work around... I save the email to the desktop (of course it's in html format)... then I open it from the desktop (in IE7)... then I print it from there... it seems to print fine from there.

     

    A lot of hassle- easy for the network admin- but not so easy to explain to less-than-savvy users!

    We have had only one user so far who experienced the 'missing header when printing' issue. I simply changed it to Rich Text and she was fine. Before that, I tried changing Outlook to always read in plain text. While this solved her problem, it created new issues for her to deal with. I did not try the patch but it does not seem necessary given such a simple solution. I hope this helps. Good luck to all!

    Hi Guys!!!

    I went to IE7 and changed the top,right,bottom margins to zero. This worked for me. Also the hotfix from MS (see kb article 931657) solved the problem for my friend.

    Does anyone know where to download this patch from.  When i click the download link on KB931657, it says there are no public hotfixes for the KB hence I can't download???
