Visual Studio Pro Trial Installs with Warnings
I finally achieved a successful download using DownloadManager and a successful DVD burn using DeepBurner. At least I think so... is there a verification checksum available for the download?
MD5 or a CCITT-CRC32?
Well, assuming the DVD burn is correct, the installation seemed to succeed, but with warnings.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times. Each time I uninstalled everything and restarted my computer. I disabled Norton Internet Security each time.
My OS is XP Pro SP2.
I have previously installed VS 2003 Pro, and VS 2005 Express with no problems.
I have already ordered the trial DVD and submitted a purchase request, but I need to continue work to avoid falling behind on my project.
Please help!

I just noticed that many of the warnings are from earier install attempts. The latest one only says that it couldn't create a shortcut.
That doesn't seem serious. Perhaps the installation is okay after all.

- interesting. Can't seem to create shortcuts mostly, are you installing under an admin account? Also disable any antivirus software you may have been running as sometimes it can cause such behavior

I was logged in with admin priviledges.
I tried a repair/reinstall, making sure that Norton Internet Security and Anti-Virus were disabled with the same result.
I'm not sure which link was not installed, Visual Studio 2005 appears in my start menu.
For anyone who comes across this in searching for a similar problem (as I did) while installing Visual Studio 2008 / VS90-KB946581 Hot Fix / Silverlight chainer...
I had basically the problem. I complained about it here: http://silverlight.net/forums/p/12933/46166.aspx#46166 and the posted the solution here: http://silverlight.net/forums/p/12933/46171.aspx#46171

Are you sure you want to cancel?

...I don't know which of these two steps is the one that solved the problem, but hopefully this will narrow it down for anyone else who runs into it.
(1) I had a shortcut to the command prompt saved on my quick launch toolbar. The target was this:
%comspec% /k ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\vcvarsall.bat"" x86
And it was set to start in:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\"
(2) I had also modifed ComSpec in my system environment variables (i.e., System Properties|Advanced) because I always wanted the VS tools in my path:
ComSpec = %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe /k "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\vcvarsall.bat" x86
Anyway, one or the other was preventing both the hot fix and the silverlight chainer from successfully installing as described in the first post here. Between deleting the shortcut from my quick launch toolbar and restoring comspec to the default (%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe), both installers succeeded and I'm back in business.
