PowerPivot 64 bit fails to install (Missing Office Runtime/.Net Framework)

Question

Hello Everyone,

I am currently trying to install PowerPivot 2012 64 bit on a new Windows 7 64 bit Professional (SP1) installation.
The following software packages are installed:
- .Net Framework 4.0 (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64)
- Office Runtime (vstor40_x64)
- Office 2010 Professional 64 bit

However, the PowerPivot setup always fails with the following message:

which roughly translates to: "MS Visual Studio Office Runtime and/or .Net Framework 4.0 are missing." Although both packages have been installed (as advised by MS, .Net has been installed prior to MS Office). All Office installation options/features have been selected.

OK, here's how I fixed the problem:

Since the missing packages is obviously installed, I downloaded the Orca MSI Editor and ran a full validation. This produced the same result als the log file above; the CustomAction MISSINGVSTO_64 was fired because the Office Runtime was supposed to be missing (although it actually wasn't). I removed the CustomAction and after that I was able to install PowerPivot without any trouble. When I open Excel I can see the PowerPivot tab and it seems to be working. However, we will have to find out, if it really works or if it just appears to work.

The following screenshot shows the relevant CustomAction in orca, prior to removal:

btw, just for the sake of completeness, these are the exact excel and powerpivot versions
- Excel: 14.0.6112.5000 64bit
- PowerPivot: 11.0.2100.60 64 bit

Thank you...I had the same issue, and the above approach appears to have fixed the install problem.  I also had to remove the additional 'MISSING...' actions.
