I am trying to install Visual Studio 2010 Shell, and the installation fails immediately on Microsoft Application Error Reporting.

I have VS2008 installed as well as Visual C# 2010 Express. I have looked at many similar issues in the forums regarding this issue, but no luck. I've tried emptying the Temp folder and I have run the Fixit deal to try and fix whatever it could fix.

Just recently, I have also had an issue with Microsoft Office 2007 always running the Configuration Manager when I open a file. Not the forum for it, but if it gives any insight...just thought I would throw it out there. Thanks!

It looks like the same link for all of them, so I guess the link just goes to my public folder? I don't really use SkyDrive, so I am not too sure on that one.

    Again, thank you in advance.

    Hi Gweeze,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

    From your log:

Please find the “dw20shared.msi” file in the <installation location>\WCU\Watson. Then try to run it directly. If you still fail to install it, please copy this file to the location: “C:\Users\Miguel\AppData\Local\Temp\30319.01\1033\VCS_EXP\wcu\watson\dw20shared.msi”

If you have any other problems, please feel free to let me know.

    Hi Alexander,

Thank you for the suggestion. That seemed to work for the Microsoft Application Error Reporting. Now I get stuck on the VC 9.0 Runtime (x86). Same error: 1612. I get the same error from running both VSIntShell.exe and from VSIsoShell.exe both downloaded a couple different times from Microsoft's website to make sure they didn't get corrupted while being downloaded. I guess the next thing I will do is find a standalone for the VC Runtime 9.0 (x86).

I just got a new larger hard drive, and I am planning on doing some hard drive swapping and reformatting and whatnot. I haven't had a fresh install in a couple years, and I probably have multiple versions of Visual Studio installed (I don't think it matters much, but there could be some messed up dependencies). Maybe that's what I need. Thanks for the help.

    Cheers,

    Miguel

    Hi Miguel,

In fact, different versions of Visual Studio can be installed side by side without any problems. If the error still exists after you reinstall the OS, please feel free to let me know.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,
