Answered StreamInsight in Azure

Is it still possible to deploy StreamInsight in Azure, with the 1.0 release?

Noticed that Server.Create now requires an instance name, how can I get a workerrole to provide a valid instance name?

    Hi,

I'm actually also interrested of the subject. If the guys from MS know more than that, I will let them complete the information.

But - as  far as I know - you will definitely need a SI installation on the cloud machine in order to have the instance working properly. Which is not (yet) possible in Azure. We are looking forward for the evolutions in the MS' Cloud...

    Regards,

    Not really, it does work.

You can host the streaminsight assembly in any host process, as long as it can access a few registry settings (which includes the license and instance name). The trick is to first do a local installation, extract the registry settings and embed them into your roles. Azure roles can then add these settings to their local registry on startup.

It works from a technical perspective, not sure though if you are actually allowed to do so?

    Kind regards,
    Yves

So, is StreamInsight in a cloud environment tested and supported or not?  We have a worker role and  SQL Azure database.  Could we get a definative:

    Yes (works, tested and support)

No (either does not work or not supported)

    or

Unknown (may work but has not been tested and is not supported)

    answer?

    Thanks,

    Katy

Microsoft is actually working on an implementation of StreamInsight specifically in the cloud ... Project Austin.
