Power View and SSAS Multidimensional mode

Question

Hi,

Can I connect to SSAS Cube (Multidimensional mode) from PowerView?. I have read many articles and it seems that Crescent capabilities are currently only available with Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode & SSAS in Tabular mode.

Hello Pradeep,

you are correct that Power View currently only works over tabular models.  At the PASS conference in Seattle a few weeks ago we announced that we are also working on enabling Power View over cubes (multidimensional mode) with the same experience you get over tabular models.  That work is however too late to make it into Denali RTM, and we will announce at a later point when exactly this capability is available.

Hi Robert,

Is this feature available in SQL Server 2012 RC0?  Will it be available by full release?  We are building a product using Report Designer and Report Builder, and would like to include Power View functionality.  We do not use tabular models, only multidimensional ones.  Thanks.

Am really looking forward to this, Power View combined with SSAS multi-dimensional support is a killer offering.

Are there any plans to release it outside of SharePoint enterprise?

Going to a customer who doesn't have MOSS Enterprise and pitching a bi solution that involves purchasing SharePoint enterprise is a big ask - in my opinion, customers should have the option.

Taking this further - is Microsoft's BI stack a SQL Server product, a SharePoint product, or both?

Any update? Can we use Powerview over SSAS cubes? Also like Josh said, can we use powerview without sharepoint ?

As Robert said, support for Power View against multidimensional models is not available in SQL Server 2012 RTM. The Analysis Services and Reporting Services teams are working to enable this support, but we haven't yet announced the release vehicle.

Currently, Power View is available in SharePoint mode only, and we support SharePoint Server Enterprise only.

In short, Microsoft's BI stack = SQL Server + SharePoint + Office.
