Is it possible to 'publish' an internal system (web application) through SharePoint extranet, using a Page Viewer webpart?

Using SharePoint 2010 we have a extranet application which customers and partners are allowed to login to, to communicate and cooperate with our users.
We were wondering if there's any way to 'publish/share' an internal web application, not having anything to do with SharePoint and hosted on a different server, on this extranet, through as an example, the Page Viewer webpart.
As of now the page viewer web part is using local DNS from the user logged into the system, and not our internal DNS like SharePoint.
Is this possible in any way?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, but that site would need to be accessible, and youd either need to be using kerberos or anonymous authentication.
What about this?
- Setup Content deployment from Internal Farm to External Farm.
This way the content will be automatically provisioned to the external farm.

No, there were no links.
If you want to learn more about content deployment go here: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=content+deployment+sharepoint+2010&rls=com.microsoft:en-au&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&redir_esc=&ei=4WmKT-uhI63MmAX8_vXECQ

Hi Chris
I think you misunderstood my question. Your articles describe how to connect different SharePoint web applications to each other. I want to connect SharePoint to a non-SharePoint application, like a inhouse developed system.
So you have any suggestions on how to do such?
EDIT:
I've added more information to my original post.
Thanks

Well yeah we could do that, but what we want to achieve, is that our applications are only accessible externally, through our SharePoint extranet.
Is this possible in any way?
