Tutorial Sample (simulation) doesn't work - no rendering

I have searched all the topics but I could not find any help. The problem concerns the Robotics Developer Studio Express
I have a problem with Visual Simulation Environment 2008 - I load in the VPL (express edition) the first sample lab1 - Samples\VplHandsOnLabs\Lab1 in the Microsoft Robotics and press F5 for build. The Desktop Joystick appears, also does the Visual Simulator Enviroment - but it only shows a blue background and does nothing else - I can change all options without a problem, also the camera moves its position, also no errors appear - only no rendering...
I am running it on my laptop asus (M50Vm)- Intel P8600 with geforce 9600M GS
+ I've installed many other MS products - Visual Studio 2008, XNA game studio 3.0 (before installing the Robotics Developer Studio Express)
+ Newest bios, updates, newest drivers from nvidia

Hi, do any other simulation samples work? Eg, does the Apartment sample run?
A 9600M GS is more than sufficient to run the simulator.
Also if you previously installed a version of RDS, please uninstall, delete the install folder, and then reinstall.
Thanks,

Unfortunately other samples also don’t work. This is the first time I've installed robotics
I have an express version of robotics, but I can install the standard.
I'm a bit afraid of reinstalling because I have many other visual studio programs - just not to destroy the system...

lunedì 6 aprile 2009 20:29If you are running a 64-bit version of windows, then this problem might be related to that. It sounds like MSFT just hacked their way around the 32-bit restrictions of the XNA graphics library (see other Forum posts for more details), so to run Robotics Studio in 64-bit you have to make sure that any visual studio projects are compiled for 'x86' rather than 'Any CPU'.... Note that the Express versions of visual studio DO NOT have this option, and CANNOT be used with Robotics Studio in 64-bit.

mercoledì 15 aprile 2009 14:07I have the same problem on my desktop (XP - SP1, 32-bit). I don't think it's a 64 vs. 32-bit issue. More likely is the video support. I had MSRS 1.5 installed, VS1005, and 2008, Silverlight, and a few other MS products. 1.5 worked. Aegis software was a separate install for that, I think.
With RS 2008, the NVidia/Aegis is included, but I had found and installed its newer version on the NVidia site. No errors reported from the DSS-- weird. -
lunedì 20 aprile 2009 13:31I think it may be a problem that brought by the anti-virus software.

I think it may be a problem that brought by the anti-virus software.
I am using Microsoft Forefront client so I don't think there are to be any problems from this direction.
I am wondering if there are to be any problems running VPL on windows 7? -
giovedì 11 febbraio 2010 16:39Hi,
The same kind of issue is performed on my computer when i'm try to used Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio academic version.
As the previous printscreen provided and displayed above, anything appears within the visual simulation environment.
Have try to launch the whole example without any success.
Is there somewhere a tutorial about it.
I'm using Windows 7 on a laptop double core with 2 Go RAM and NVIDIA graphics card.
I'm avalaible to the 1234567_90@live.fr mail address.

Do any of the samples in the Start Menu work? Please look in Start Menu \ Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2 \ Visual Simulation Environment 2008 R2. There are a lot of samples in there.

Hi,
In windows 7, did you right-click the VSE Icon and see what you get? I have the same error now, and when I right-click, I get a run-time error. Can you please let me know how you fixed it (if you were able to fix it?)
Thanks!

I am having similar issue, I have no any antivirus installed, and as displayed in the screen shot, I have VS2k10, professional, so It by default it compiles for x86. Though, I am not able to see the simulator, neither thru the sample builds, I am able to move the 'bot, yes, but the environment surface seems to be moving. The only thing is I do not have joystick, is it the root cause of this issue... ?
Please, spend your single moment, to help me out here.
Thanks,

Okay, I got the issue solved, so let me post it my self, just to help others and let others not waste the time, that I had to !
Mine is the - 64-bit machine, Windows 7, Lenovo laptop, 4 Gigs of memory, Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 4 installed with MS VS2k10 Professional Edition.
In the dashboard control after hittng the Connect button, we'd get a link in the text area, exactly below that, all that we've to do is just to double-click on that! And as soon as you'd click on the Drive button, you're all set to drive !
P.S. - You do not need to have joystick for driving the robo.
Hope, this helps and saves your time, esp for the newbies, like me.
Thanks !
