We've been asked this specific question several times.
As we mention in the Casablanca FAQ, it is our intent that when we launch it as actual supported software, Casablanca will be available as open-source. While Casablanca's
utility isn't limited to Azure, the Azure connection is very important.
Other Azure SDKs are open-source, so Casablanca will be open, too. We also intend it to be multi-platform, so that the client libraries are as broadly available as possible.
Why isn't it already released as OSS? We simply don't think it's mature enough yet. Based on your feedback, we expect to make major changes to the APIs and see a lot of churn between now and the first real release.
