  • Hi,

I got similar issue because of company's firewall. After refresh browse cache or CTRL+F5, worked fine for me.

  • Hi O'Lala,

You did not specify what version of SharePoint you are using (Foundation or Server), but if you are using server, this behavior could appear if you are a standard user (read or contribute permissions) on a site and the page itself has no currently checked in and published version (with publishing enabled on the Site Collection).

To troubleshoot this, you could go to the viewlsts.aspx as you said previously, look at view all site content (assuming you have permissions) and see if there is a pages library. If there is, you could attempt to see a different page by clicking its link to render the page.

    Hope this helps

  • Thank you both Trov and Radrio for kind response.

the server is windows 2008, sharepoint is 2010 foundation. the user I am using is site collection administrator. so it should not be permission issue. the only thing I can not do is to access http://servername. but any link would work if I know of the link, like http://servername/_layouts/settings, http://servername/_layouts/viewlsts (this normally I manage sharepoint by view all site contents).

the problem is I did not see a page library by view all site contents by the administrative user. I also tried http://servername/sitepages/home.aspx but no luck.

I will try clean all browse cache/cookie/history as Radrio said to see if it works or not.

  • It seems that some one deleted the default.aspx. Please check the default page is available at pages library or not.

If not then create a new one through SPD or through UI

  • Is this a site that was migrated or copied using tools or backup restore?

Usually happens during those. OTherwise Santosh is right, someone might have deleted the default.aspx

    try http://servername/default.aspx

if it doesn't work open SharePoint Designer, Create a new ASPX page from your master page or attach one to your master page and set it as default.

    That should fix your problem.

  • still no luck .

if I browse by http://servername/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx, the left nav bar just show "Recycle Bin" and "All Site Contents" two items.

I can't even create document library.

if I created another brand-new site collection/Team site by central administrative site on different port, everything works fine.  I compared two sites web.config and they are exactly same.

I believe there are something different between these two site collections but just don't know how to tell.

the only thing I know now, the one which is not working installed CRMListcomponent recently.

  • Hi

somehow you deleted the root site collection

Restore  it if you have a backup.

    or

try to recreate a new site collection as root

  • Hi,

I think the home page may deleted by mistake ,please try to find it from Site Collection Recycle Bin (Site Actions > Site Settings > Recycle Bin ,please check both of the two views : End user recycle bin & delete from end user recycle bin ) .

If no luck ,you may need to create a new page and set the one as default home page.

  • You can try to run the stsadm -o enumallwebs and check if your site is in the sitemap or not (insitemap=true/false)

Or you may go to SQL Server Management Studio to query the AllWebs to see if you have more than one entry in it

Or you may try to remove the content db and try to add the content db to the web application again

  • thank you all for kind responses.

to make it work I have to use the easist (and might be stupid way) way -  to delete site sollection and recreate it. but this is not a acceptable solution for some cases because there are some customizations need to be redone. I just don't have enough time to research/trouble on that.

fontunatly we don't have too much to be redone after rebuild.

couple of days with nothing to do.
