ActiveX Block CLSID: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}

    Question

  • I'm working on an Adminstrator Approved ActiveX controls list and I'm trying to figure out why some websites show the Add On Blocked information bar and attempt to call an ActiveX Control with the CLSID: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}.   Below is an example from the Internet Explorer Application Compatibility Test Tool.   Can anyone explain why this being called and what I can do to prevent these messages from appearing?

    MitigationCode: ControlBlock
    UrlPath: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=CLSID%20%7B00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000%7D&refinement=112&ac=8
    UrlZone: 2
    CLSID: {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}
    Description: Control instantiation: URLACTION check for URLACTION_ACTIVEX_RUN
    Result: Failed
    ControlUrl: Not Available
    Name: Not Available
    Publisher: Not Available
    Signature:

  • Hi,

    Which websites?

    Looks like a junk <object> declaration. Perhaps these unknown sites are using the redundant method of injecting the object tags with script.

    Note there is no UpgradePath, Publisher or Signature for the control.

    Do you have that CLSID in your ActiveXCompatibility list?

    Regards.
