Video on IE10 Invalid source , works on Chrome

    Question

  • I have Win 7 64 running IE10 from Visual Studio 2010 and a local mp4 file.  If I debug to IE 10 it gives Invalid source. TO Chrome 28.0 it works fine. Firefox 22.0 no video with supported format and MIME type found.

    What could be wrong?  Another fellow here had a problem when I specified to codec but I am not doing it here.  I also tried several other formats.

    Here is the entire web page

    <!DOCTYPE html>

    <html >

    <body>
    <video  controls>
       <source src="Images\P1010785.mp4" type="video/mp4"/>

       Your browser does not support the video tag.
     </video>
    </body>
    </html>

    Thanks,
    Chas

  • I found a utility that shows the codec it is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. So now I am even mor confused.  The stuff I read said h.264 is the standard IE supports.

  • I tried it on Safari for Windows 5.1.7; the video works there.

  • Hi,

    correct your markup errors at Validator.w3.org...

    YOU HAVE NO HEAD! (or title)

    Use the developer tool to determine what documentMode you POS renders in.. If its in 7 then you probably have "Include Intranet sites in Compatibility view" checked in your Compatibility View settings.

    Ensure you are accepting the default security zone settings... Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".

    Ask a friend.

  • Rob, Thank you so much for your helpful answer. I am still experiencing the same thing.  Developer tool says "Broswer Mode :IE10". Include Intranet Sites in Compatibility view was checked ; I unchecked it.  I Reset all zones to default.  I always said I would loose my head if it was not attached <g> but I have one and  a title now so Validator is  happy now.

    my code is now

    <!DOCTYPE html>

    <html>
    <head>
    <TITLE>Testimonials</TITLE>

    </head>
    <body>
    <video  controls>
       <source src="Images\P1010785.mp4" type="video/mp4"/>
       Your browser does not support the video tag.
     </video>
    </body>
    </html>
