Any related topic on this site or any other i googled didn't help me.

I tried microsoft fix it. But that wouldn't install. Said there was another install in progress that needs to finish first (50123).

The last succesful update before this problem was KB2636927 (Security update for Microsoft Silverlight)

My OS version is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64b.

I turned off AV & firewall and cleaned C:\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp and tried again. No success.

There is only one install process running when i try.

I've run collect.aspx which took some time, but after it finished i can't locate vslogs.cab anywhere on my PC.

Could you please give me an indication where to look?

You will find the vslogs.cab file in the Temp folder for the logged in user, which, coincidentally, is the same Temp folder you were asked to clear before attempting the install.

To locate the Temp folder you want, do this:

    1. Log on using the administrator ID you will use for the install.

    2. Click the Start Orb, then type %temp% in the search box. The search results will show the Temp folder you want.

    3. Click on Temp in the search results to open the folder in Windows Explorer (make sure your Windows Explorer is set to show System and hidden files/folders)

You will find vslogs.cab in that folder.

OK. Cleared the %Temp% and tried again. Still no joy.

Found the vslogs.cab, installed Skydrive and put the cab file in the public folder.

How do i share the link to the cab-file and to whom?

With the file uploaded to SkyDrive, right click on it and select Share. Share with everyone. When you do that, you'll see the link you need to post here.

    hi FrankvdRt,

Sorry for this late follow up.

But I didn't see any updates log on July.  Old logs shows

"Returning IDOK. INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Silverlight 4 SDK. The Windows Installer cannot continue.]"

It means SP1 haven't been download successfully.

Could you please download the ISO file http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=210710 to install again.

After that, if you still failed, you can show me the log again.

    Regards,

When i run the DVD it starts File verification, which ends succesfully.

But while the file verification is running i get an error window:

"Another installation process is running. Wait a moment, Then click Retry. Or, if you are running any other installation process along with this one, close it now, and then click Retry. If this message continues to appear, click Cancel to exit and rerun this package again."

I cancelled and retried several times, but the result stays the same.

I'm not running any other installation processes. While running the DVD, my process list in Windows task managers shows only 1 setup.exe process.

    Hi FrankvdRt,

    Please follow these instrcutions:

1.I recommend you restart your system to perform the installation.

    2. Disable AV software.

    3. Clear %temp% folder.

    4. Can you find this process "Msiexec.exe" when installing. Some files are installed with this process.

    5. If you still failed, please collect a new vslogs.cab for me.

    Regards,

With AV & firewall disabled and %temp% cleared, the file verification finished without the previous problem.

Then the second progress bar in the install window said: Rollback progress: & Rolling back Silverlight 4 SDK.

And a window popped up called: "Microsoft Silverlight 4 SDK" with the message:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'silverlight_sdk.msi' in the box below.".

I didn't find any such file on any drive.

During the install i didn't see "Msiexec.exe" in my process lis

After cancelling the Silverlight window, the rollback continued. A similar window about vs_runtime_x86.msi appeared several times. The rollback finishe with message that Reapplication did not succeed.

I did see 2 Msiexec.exe processes while rollback continued. One with my username and one without a username.

    Hi FrankvdRt,

I've checked your logs and found the following error:

Returning IDOK. INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [Error 1706.An installation package for the product Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Runtime - 10.0.40219 cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'Vc_runtime_x86.msi'.]

It means this ISO is still a corrupt one. Which do not have VC_runtime_x86.msi. It is a component of VS2010 SP1, I referred to this page

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vsnetsetup/archive/2012/03/14/unable-to-install-microsoft-windows-sdk-for-windows-7-and-net-framework-4.aspx

So could you please check your disk first?http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/is/vssetup/thread/3eba193e-2a0c-4ff1-a838-8095c468e592 It seems this issue can be caused by hard drive failure.

Did you use Windows Update last time? I recommend you try this web installer instead http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23691 Web-installer will help you to check your files. It is different from Windows Update.

Additionally, this issue may tells us your OS is unsafe. Could you please also do a system scan with this tool http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-gb/default.aspx

    Hi,

I redownloaded the iso file twice to different harddisks and did a binary compare with UltraCompare, which confirmed the files to be identical. So i guess i don't have a disk about to crash.

Burned the iso again with Nero 10, which verified the image as succesful.

Used your system scan and did a full scan. It removed 11 items.

Restarted the PC, cleared %Temp%, Turned off AV & firewall and restarted the ISO setup.exe.

The result was identical to the previous attempt: During rollback i got 1 message that 'silverlight_sdk.msi' could not be found and the message about 'vc_runtime_x64.msi' appeared 4 times.

I ran collect.exe again. The link is: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=9CA7F7A4D5CCA8BD!120&authkey=!APHcoAChSufHw6w

    Hi FrankvdRt,

Sorry for the late track. I forgot to answer this thread.

It seems you still have the same error at this time.

Your still have this error. Since after a full scan, 112 items have been removed, your OS maybe corrupt.

Could you please repair your OS or reinstall it?

    Regards,

    Hi Barry,

I did have a harddrive failure in the raid 5 array where i installed visual studio.

After replacing the failed drive i tried again with the same result.

Repairing the OS seems useless because all else works as normal. Also, my installation disk is pre-SP1.

Reinstalling the OS would also require reinstalling all my software and almost 200 games. I'm not going there.

So, alas, my choise was to remove the one program that gives me problems: Visual Studio.

    Thanks anyway for your efforts.
