    Hallo everyone,

I am tryining to find a way to transfer a powerpivot-report from one database to another keeping the table structure, relationships and measures. I am working on MSSQL-Tables. The scenario is that we have customers that use the same table structure (since they are using the same ERP-system) and we would like to use the same powerpivot-report in the different databases.

I know that I can open the existing connections and change the server and database. However it seems that the tables are still "tied to" the original database.

What is the easiest way to move a report?

    Thanks and regards,

    Julian

    Hi Julian,

It seems that you are using the PowerPivot on the SharePoint, if you want the other users use the same report, you can deploy the same report to the different sharepoint site directly, if the different users use the same datasource, there is no need for you to modify the connection string, if not, you should also modify the connection string in the PowerPivot before you deploy.

If I misunderstand you, please feel free to let us know.

    Thanks,

    Julian,

I tested this in PowerPivot for Excel and it worked as expected.  The data shifted from one database to another.  Did you refresh the data after you changed the connection to verify the results?

I have successfully done this with Oracle data sources as well.   If you have this deployed to SharePoint you will need a different copy to make sure the connections are pointed in the right direction.
