"Can not validate product." install failure on Windows 7 64 bit

I get the error message "can not validate product." when I try to install the current release of R3 on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I've tried redownloading the package several times and turning off User Account Control. I have no previous versions of robotics studio on this machine. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

We have not seen this error, and we tested on Win7 64-bit before release.
Are you logged in as an Administrator? Does the error appear before any dialogs are displayed?

Hi Trevor.
I am logged in as an administrator. The error appears after I get prompted for set up parameters (Custom or Full install, etc...), when it would normally be making changes to the hard drive.
I've tried this a few times now, so I don't remember exactly what happened the first time I tried, but I believe that all of the non robotics studio stuff that comes in the package installed fine. It was only when the installer got to the robotics studio part that it crashed.
Thanks.

Well that suggests that it is not operating system specific.
Can you please run the install again and list exactly the steps and the error message?
Thanks,
Trevor

Hey Guys,
I've just been reading up on the problem event "BEX64", which seems to mean its a buffer overflow error on 64-bit Windows.
Googling this I found the following: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/19075-start-search-crashes-windows-explorer.html
It's for a different problem, but they suggest it may be a DEP (Data Execution Prevention) issue, and to try and turn off DEP and any virus scanners escpession Microsoft Security Essentials, if you have that running.
This may not help at all, but worth a shot :)
Cheers,
Roger

I tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials and turning off Data Execution Prevention, but that didn't work. Thanks for the ideas though!

I finally found a solution to this problem. I ran the System File Checker, found out that a few DLLs were corrupt on my system. Once I fixed them, MRS installed normally.
Here's the relevant knowledge base article:

I think I have run the System File Checker but it still didn't work. What I did was, in the Command Prompt, I typed
sfc /scannow
and hit return. Something ran, and I frequently had to press Cancel then Yes, as I did not have the installation media (my computer came with XP). What else can I do? -
30 Agustus 2010 1:40Once you run the sfc /scannow command you'll have to look at the log to see what files were corrupt. I followed the instructions in the knowledge base article that I linked above and it worked for me.

31 Agustus 2010 20:20I didn't see a log. I used the instructions on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747/en-us.

Just FYI, I re-installed my laptop with Win7 64-bit and then installed RDS 2008 R3 and I did not see this problem. So until we have a clear cause it is really hard to provide a solution :-)

We cannot reproduce this problem, and so we can't debug it. Do you have any more information?

Maybe if MS RS had more information posted as it was installing, at least the end user could have more information to provide the people that need to reproduce this.
