I downloaded and installed the IBM DB2 client on my machine. The IBM.Data.Db2.Dll is located in my
C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\PDE_9_7_4\BIN\netf20
C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB\PDE_9_7_4\BIN\netf40
directories
However... when I try to connect to DB2 from powerpivot it says
The 'DB2OLEDB' provider is not registered on the local machine
now what can I do to register the db2 provider post the installation of the ibm db2 client on my windows 7 32 bit machine?

It is probably mixed bitness of driver and SQL Server. You said you have 32-bit Windows; you need to make sure the connection type is 32-bit as well.
Try that, and post back if you need more help.
