I second this. Also, the Live Mesh doesn't connect either. If I connect without using the proxy server first, then go over to the proxy network, I can send messages...

We're having the same issue in my company. We cannot get messenger to sign in through the proxy. What has changed from the previous version? When running the connection tests, it failes on the KEY PORTS test, blaming local firewall config . If thats right, why does it work fine from the same PC when not running through the proxy....?

Yes something changed from previous version. You solve it in this way:

Go to IE Tools -> Internet Options -> Connection -> LAN Settings

then check the "Automatically detect settings" too.

Strange, I had the identical error code and problem.

Did you leave your proxy configuration on, right?

    I mean:

set your proxy configuration manually but check "Automatically detect settings" too.

Actually, i am using the application "Proxifier" to forward the the internet flow to proxy server. But if i set the proxy server configuration in IE directly, there is a same error.

I am having a similar issue, we are using a proxy configuration script and using “automatically detect settings” option in IE (as recommeded by Riccardo ). we have has also configured the proxy server to force authentication for the User Agent string: MSN Explorer/9.0 (MSN 8.0; TmstmpExt) per kb-927847; This is working fine when using MSN Messenger but not when using Windows Live Messenger 2011.

     Any help is really appreciated

    Thank you

We are having the same issue with a few laptop users in our network, although they use docking stations, connected to our wired LAN, which possibly rules out any Wireless problems. We are using a config script for our proxy, with the proxy being a Squid Proxy Server configured to allow traffic through port 1863. This is quite serious as we use Live Messenger extensively, specially for after hours support. I have tried the following to fix this issue:

    • Checking and unchecking the "Automatically detect settings" option in the LAN Settings of the machine's local Internet Properties.
    • Leaving both the "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic configuration script" options checked.
    • Uninstalling Windows Live Messenger and the Live Essentials suite and re-installing those.
    • Flushing the local DNS cache.
    • Clearing all internet caching and history.

Even after trying all the above the problem persists. The users are still able to use the Messenger service through their Hotmail accounts over the web and when accessing Live Messenger at home on the same machine, it connects fine. Not sure what to try or where to approach this from anymore and was wondering if anyone managed to solve this issue already and could provide some tips. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in antecipation!

    Guilherme.
