Bootstrapper Packages for .NET Frameworks 2.0 SP2 and .NET Frameworks 3.0 SP2 (Refreshed with GDRs)
Is now available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vs2008/bb898654.aspx
Details about the Refresh
This package has been updated to include KB958481 and KB958483.
Background
Visual Studio 2008 SP1 included a bootstrapper package for .Net Frameworks 3.5 SP1, which allows developers to deploy with their Setup Projects and ClickOnce applications the latest version of the .Net Frameworks in an installation package that works on all supported operating systems, including 64-bit systems and Vista.
However, there are some reasons for not wanting to deploy .NET Frameworks 3.5 SP1. As a result, we are releasing bootstrapper packages for the latest versions of .NET Frameworks 2.0 and .NET Frameworks 3.0 (the SP2 releases).
Limitations:
· These packages provide support for x86 and x64 operating systems, however they do not support and will fail to install on Windows Vista or subsequent operating systems. To provide a prerequisite that will install on Windows Vista, use the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 bootstrapper package, included with Visual Studio 2008 SP1, instead.
· These packages do not support the "Download components from the component vendor's web site." option. If this option is selected, the bootstrapper will build successfully and will show some build warnings that indicate that no Homesite link was found. As a result, these specific packages will be run from the same location as the bootstrapper and will require the installation files (which are copied to the build output folder) to be copied along with the built setup.exe file.
· These packages provide support for Chinese (Traditional), Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.
For users who have these requirements, the .NET Frameworks 3.5 SP1 bootstrapper package, included in Visual Studio 2008 SP1, is recommended.
