I've recently had to uninstall VS2010 Ultimate and install premium instead for licencing reasons at work.

Have already wasted a day plus on this, SP 1 will not install (after running for an hour+).  The error is

Returning IDOK. INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Web.CSS,version="10.0.0.0",publicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",processorArchitecture="MSIL",fileVersion="10.0.40219.1",culture="neutral"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070005. ]

    MSI returned 0x643

I've repaired the 2010 install already after having removed some add-ins that seemed to be causing problems previously.

    Any solutions?

Hi Julian, how did you uninstall VS 2010 Ultimate? Via the Control Panel?

You could try using the VS 2010 Uninstall Tool in FULL mode, and then re-install VS 2010 Premium.

That was my next step, the Uninstall Tool.  I was hoping to avoid it though.  Yes I uninstalled via Programs & Features initially as I was unaware of any issues with applying SP1.

    Hi Julian Booth,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

From your description, your error 0x80070005 means “access denied” which means you do not have permission or you have installed it already.

So please first check that you haven’t installed any SP1 level products on your PC and then try the VS 2010 Uninstall Utility with Full or Complete command(The link has been provided by systemx).

Also, please make sure you have applied all updates on your OS.

Then you can run your installation again to see if you can install VS2010 SP1.

If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
