Accessing SQL server

Question

I just loaded MS Visual Studio Professional on my laptop at home and desktop at work.  I am going though the exercises listed on the start up page.  I am attempting to go through "Walkthrough: Basic Data Access in Web Pages" and I am having difficulties when I get to step #9 Server Name Box.  What do I put in that box?  When I am at work and on our network (I work for a school district) it lists all of our 60+ school servers.  When I am at home it doesn't list anything in the drop down box.  Is there something that I did not configure or install?
