Announcing Public CTP Release of VSeWSS 1.3

Question

The Community Technology Preview release for Visual Studio 2008 extensions for SharePoint 1.3 is now publicly available on Microsoft Connect.

New Features in VSeWSS 1.3

• The extensions now install on x64 bit OS. Visual Studio 2008 and SharePoint must be already installed.
• Command Line Build option for TFS and MSBuild integration
• Separate WSP Package and Retract commands. You can now build the WSP without deploying it
• SPSolGen to Support Exporting from Content Management Publishing Sites
• New Item Template for RootFiles Deployment
• Automatically Remove conflicting existing features on development SharePoint server
• WSP View New Feature Dialog Improvements: scope, receiver checkbox, element checkbox
• WSP View can now be used to merge features and it blocks site features being merged into web features
• Allow adding separate binary files such as Workflow assemblies
• Some refactoring allowing for Web Part renaming and removing lines from feature.xml Item Removed
• Allow selection of GAC or BIN deployment for Web Part Project not including CAS generation
• Increase visibility of hidden features that VSeWSS creates
• Add fast update deploy for DLL only or file only changes to solutions
• Numerous Bug Fixes and improvements to error messages

When trying to install the 1.3 VSeWSS (x86) , downloaden from https://connect.microsoft.com/Downloads/DownloadDetails.aspx?SiteID=428&DownloadID=15946 the wizard tells me it is installing the 1.2 version and that I have the option to repair or remove the 1.2 version.

Am i doing something wrong ??

OK solved it, you should first remove the 1.2 version than retry the installation.

After removing 1.2 and installing 1.3, and opening a project developed with 1.2, the WSP is empty and deployment (F5) does not work. Any ideas?

What is the debug url for your project? Is it pointing to a SharePoint site on the local machine?
What OS? What VS?
What is the error you get when deploying?

Im unable to install on a box running Windows Server 2008 x64. The error message given is "This product can not be installed on 64-bit versions of Windows"... :(

Did you install the 64 bit version?

The 64 bit build is named: VSeWSSv13_AMD64_Build_307_CTP.msi

Hi guys,
I can't install VSeWSS 1.3 CTP on my virtual WS 2008 x86 and VS 2008. The installer shows a MessageBox with text "Please wait while installer finishes determing your disk space requirements." and a button "Return". It happens nothing after message appearance! What Imust to do ?

 Error 1 The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state.  0 0 

 

I get this when I try to deploy anything..

i cannot install the VSeWSSv13_x86_Build_307_CTP.msi on my machine. I have installed a german version of Forms Server.

The Setup Message is:

I'm getting that lovely message when trying to uninstall CTP 1.3:

"Failed to open metabase key (-2147024748 /LM  )"

Then the next message:

"Fatal error during installation"

Looks like to uninstall it I have no choice but to roll back hole server.

I am having problems packiging in both Visual Studio and the commandline since upgradig to the 1.3 version.
Within Visual Studio it sometimes return an error (""). I can solve this most of the time by adding all of my assemblies to the GAC, resetting IIS and retrying. If I have been working on onother soolution using the same assemblies later on it's broken again.
When trying toi package using the command line variant, Visual Studio Crashes and restart automatically. This hasn't worked a single time.

Any ideas?

Download the 1.3 extensions to your C:/ drive from here:

Start the msi from an elevated command prompt - that is, right click Command Prompt icon in Start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'. Issue this command:

C:\msiexec /i VSeWSSv13_x86_Build_307_CTP.msi

This will prevent the UAC from causing the VSeWSS 1.3 to "fail prematurely". 

UPDATE: Andreas I have updated the download link above and it seems to be an executable. Try that first and see if it works for you?

yes, msiexec /i worked für the january ctp.
yes the february ctp is a exe file. it prompt for elevated rights automatically.

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to install the VSeWSS 1.3 x64 version on my windows 2008 server and I get the following error:


Error writting to file:
Microsoft.Sharepoint.Tools.Resources.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory.


Please note that I am doing so under an administrator account.
I tryed to stop every service regarding Sarepoint and IIS, but still I have no success.
Can anyone help me.

Hi,

i tried to install the Visual Studio extension for Windows Sharepoint Services on my Windows 7 x64.

I used the registry hack to tell the installer, that i have a Sharepoint installation.

But if i try to install the extension, i ran into the same error like Andreas Schulz.

Error message in Event Logs:
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Visual Studio 2008 extensions for Windows SharePoint Services version 1.3. Product Version: 12.0.4518.1092. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603.

I tried the installation with the februar and the march release...

Hey Andreas,

Have you tried the "WSS / MOSS Instalation Helper for Vista (Windows 7)" ???

I've just installed WSS 3.0 sp2 over my Windows 7 x64, and after this, I was able to install the VSeWSS 1.3 (march 2009 CTP).
