Rough estimate of hours to migrate from 2007 to 2010
-
jeudi 26 juillet 2012 06:41Hi,
We have 2007 moss. We're considering outsource it to have a sharepoint contractor do the migration for us to the sp2010 MOSS.
We have one root site that has about 60 subsites(in multilple levels of sub sites). I would like to regroup these subsites into 3 Site Collections. So, instaed of just the one we have now, we will have 3 site collections, each with its own database.
We currently have the SP configure to authenticate with our AD and the new 2010 version would also need to be configure to do so.
Can someone give me an approximate idea of how many hours it would take for an experienced SP contractor to do this for us. Thank yoThank you

I would recommend that you do your grouping in MOSS before migrating to SP 2010.
Also, it is not easy to say how much time it is going to take to migrate. It depends a lot on:
1. If you have 3rd-party customisations deployed and if you want to carry them over to SP 2010
2. If you have custom site definitions
3. If you have Fab 40 templates deployed
4. If you have custom code (webparts, application pages, javascript etc) that you need in the new environment.
I would suggest planning the upgrade and then doing a mock upgrade to come up with an estimate. Pre-upgrade check will give you a lot of information and idea on how the migration might go. If you want the migration to be as hassle free as possible then run the checker and fix all issues in your current environment.
When the contractor makes the estimate, you would also need to think whether SP 2010 build, configuration, migration and testing is included. Or the contractor will just for migration and rest is handled by you/team.
Technet has some excellent guidance on migration (in-place or database attach).

Sorry, we have 30 subsites in 1 site collection, not 60 subsites as I originally mentioned.
We don't have any of the stuff you mentioned except several sites have web parts. All of our site are created by MS templates like the Team Collaboration template. I got estimate of 130 hour and 20 of those is for testing hours. Does that sound reasonable? thank you.
Thank you

That sounds reasonable to me. May be it can be a little less, but with upgrades you can never tell what can go wrong. If this includes SP 2010 build, config etc, I think its a fair call (approx. 3 weeks)

vendredi 27 juillet 2012 01:02Thank you so much. Since we don't have a Sharepoint Administrator I just want to make sure that we're getting a fair and reasonable quote. I don't want to find out later it should only take about 40 hours... Much appreciated.
Thank you
