Peopleresults.aspx page returns 404

Question

Hi

I have a new installation and I'm getting The webpage cannot be found 404s when I try and search for people in Mysites

Is this expected behaviour?

I've seen a few posts about how you have to create the enterprise search centre and point Mysites to that URL as the preferred search centre

Shouldn't it work OOB? Or is this part of the default configuration -

Hi Jonj you have to configure the "Preferred Search Center" in "Setup My Sites" under "My Site Settings" in the User Profile Service Application (take a look to this post, it shows the print screen of the settings http://www.sharepointanalysthq.com/2010/11/setting-up-search-for-user-properties-in-my-sites-for-sharepoint-2010/). You also have to be sure that the Enterprise Search Center you configure in the previous step exists in your farm.

Hi Riccardo - thanks for responding - yes it does work when I configure an Enterprise search centre and point Mysites at this - my question though is whether this is the default config - i.e. OOB people search in mysites doesn't work? Do you have to configure an Ent search centre and point mysites at it to get people to work? I want to know whether it is just my environment that people search did not work OOB in mysites or is that normal/expected behaviour?

Just found this - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh582311.aspx

Which says "People search also requires a Search Center that uses the Enterprise Search Center template"

So OOB people search won't work just by setting up mysites
