Traitée InfoPath 2010 Latest Version Error Message

Boy, this InfoPath is incredibly frustrating for me and I hope someone can help.

About 3 weeks ago, I made a very simple test IP form and published it to a IP form library.  After successfully testing it myself, I sent the library link to 3 different colleagues and the form worked for all of them - all they had to do was click Add Document, fill out the form, click SUBMIT and the results published to the form library like it should.

Now, 3 weeks later, I'm ready to make a real form to be actually used company-wide.  First, I made what I felt is a great looking form using company colors and so on:

I then published it to a IP form library, then went to the library and clicked on the Add Document to fill it out:

Everything worked just like it should for me (you'll see the red checked record above of a successful submission), so now you'd think it would work for my colleagues as well, like the 3-weeks-ago form did, right?  I sent all 3 of them the link to this new form library, they click on Add Document and here is what they get:

So I went into the Advanced Settings and noticed under Open in Browser my settings (see below) but I don't see how that would affect anything because the form does work ME - when I click Add Document, the form opens in the latest version of IP and I fill it out - just not everyone else:

Can someone tell me why this is not working for the others?  Thanks.

    Hi Mike,

In your first screenshot it appears that the form is opening in the InfoPath client, not in a web browser.  The error message you're seeing suggests that the form is opening in the InfoPath client on your colleagues' computers as well - and that they have a version of InfoPath that is not as 'new' as the version of InfoPath that created the form.

I expect you should be able to resolve this using either of the following methods:

METHOD 1 - Configure the form template so that it will open in the browser, not in the InfoPath client:

    1) Open your InfoPath template in Design mode by right clicking your .XSN file and choosing Design.

    2) Pull down InfoPath Designer 2010's File menu and click the Form Options box.

    3) Click Compatibility and then change the Form Type to Web Browser Form.

    4) Republish the form template, and while in going through the Publishing Wizard, be sure that the Enable this form to be filled out using a browser box is checked.

METHOD 2 - Configure the form template so that it will open in an earlier version of InfoPath:

    1) Open your InfoPath template in Design mode by right clicking your .XSN file and choosing Design.

    2) Pull down InfoPath Designer 2010's File menu and click the Form Options box.

    3) Click Compatibility and then change the Form Type to InfoPath 2007 Filler Form.

    4) Republish the form template, and while in going through the Publishing Wizard, be sure that the Enable this form to be filled out using a browser box is checked.

    5) Configure the form library settings (as depicted in your screen snapshot above) to Open in the client application.

Note that it's possible your form template might have some features that might preclude your changing the compatibility of the form template.  Just before publishing, pull down the File menu and click the Design Checker box to help identify whether any such incompatibilities exist.

Hi - thanks for replying.  I went through the steps in Method 1.  While publishing the form, the menu box showed this:

So I'm wondering why it's saying that about browser enabled.  I personally don't have access to our cloud central administration, but the person who does showed me the settings and it appears our cloud server does enable browser forms.  So that's why I'm puzzled about this because I followed all of the steps in Method 1 you described.

I will soon try Method 2 as I have to wait for someone to come into the office and try it out to see if the form works in 2007 after doing Method 2.

Any ideas on what the issue is above in #1?  Thanks.

    Mike,

Here is some good discussion on 'cannot be browser-enabled on the selected site' error:

Bill - thanks for that helpful link.  I'll be sure to read it.

I did the Method #2 as you described above and the form now works for others.  It seems that even though we've moved over to 2010, it seems that many colleagues don't have 2010 yet (don't know why).  But I went to a colleague's computer, clicked ADD DOC and the form I designed opened up in the older version of IP.  She filled it out and it worked like it should.

Thanks again.  BTW - if you'd like to give it a whirl, I have another SP issue that I posted but so far no one has replied.  This is for a completely different topic though:

    Mike,

Glad to hear METHOD 2 resolved the issue.  I'll take a peek at the other question and see if I have anything to offer there.
