Excel editing use cases

Unanswered Excel editing use cases

As a part of our product, we override Excel's undo/redo capabilities to support some complex stuff that we do with changes in Excel.  Historically, this has been problematic for us as we've never had a good list of the various edit use cases in Excel.  It's always a surprise when we discover a new way to edit sheets that we didn't even know was possible -- and, as a side effect, our software handles those events poorly.  I'm wondering if there's something already out there that describes the various sheet editing use cases.

To give you a feel for what we're looking for, here's some use cases that we only recently discovered:

    1) If you multiselect sheet tabs and make a change on the active sheet, that change is made on all the sheets.
    2) You can cut and insert individual cells (or groups of cells).  There's a lot of interesting "automatic" behavior in this one.  If I cut a single cell and insert into the same row or column, then the original cell is moved and the other cells slide toward the cut cell's original location.  If I cut a single cell and insert on a different row and column, then the original cell is simply cleared.

    Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for posting.

After reading your post, I am still not very clear about your problem.

    1. What is the version of your Excel application?

    2. <<1) If you multiselect sheet tabs and make a change on the active sheet, that change is made on all the sheets.>>

As far as I know, if we multiselect the sheet tabs and make changes on the active sheet, all the other sheets also changed(eg. fill the background of the cells).

    3. Could you show us the detailed steps of your problem and what are you want to achieve in Excel?

I will do further research with your detailed information.

    Best Regards,

I'm looking for a document that lists the various edit use cases that Excel supports.  Some are simple and straightforward (edit a single cell, copy & paste of a single cell, etc.) while others are more advanced and complicated such as those that I mentioned in my original post.

    1. I'm using Excel 2010

    2. Right, that's what I mentioned.  I don't think that this is a common use case, and we only stumbled onto it by accident.

    3. I don't have a technical problem.  I'm looking for information on the various ways that a user can edit excel sheet data.

    Thanks,

    -Kevin

Kevin, I think it is more suitable to be posted on the answer forum:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-excel
Because your problem is more like an end user problem, there are more experts there who are more familiar with the usage of it and may give you more suggestions or workarounds. Wish you a nice day.
