ABSOLUTE vs RELATIVE ADDRESSING

    Question

  •  HMMMM --- I thought I posted this question earlier today and I even received an e-mail that someone had replied, but when I clicked on the link in the e-mail, all I got was a blank page.

SORRY, but here goes again.  And if this question belongs somewhere else on the forum, just let me know.

I'm new at this so all SIMPLE answers will be greatly appreciated.

I recently started using Expression WEb to create my eBay ads.  My site has a series of nested folders with the HTML file and JPEG's for each item in it's own folder  When an item sells I just delete the folder and all of the contents.

    For example:

    http://www.sjk4u.com/images/ST&20JOHN/SWEATERS/176/IMG_4778.JPG

I rarely work in code mode.  Almost always design mode.  I created several templates that have all the background and wording.  Now I want to drag and drop JPEG's into a template to create the final ad, and save it with a unique name.

Here's my problem:  When I drag and drop a JPEG it only gives me the name of the file.  I need the entire address because when the ad is up-loaded eBay can't find the JPEG's.

    Here's an example:

WHEN I DRAG AND DROP, I GET:

    IMG_4778.JPG

    BUT WHAT I NEED IS:

    http://www.sjk4u.com/images/ST&20JOHN/SWEATERS/176/IMG_4778.JPG

Can someone please tell me if there is a setting I can adjust in EW, or a different way to accomplish my goal.  It takes forever to edit the code to add the rest of the address for each item.

All help will be greatly appreciated, but do please keep it simple.  I got into this HTML thing just recently so I know I'm light years behind the curve.  But I don't need to build a watch, I just want to know what time it is.  -:)

    Thanks so very much,

    RROSE7

PS:  HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF MY TEMPLATES:

  • As I understand it you are creating adverts in EW for eventual use on Ebay, so there isn't a 'live' site to work on. You want to point to images that are on a live site, separate from the adverts.

In this case the only option I can see is the create the adverts with locally stored images and then use 'Edit-Replace' in code view to add the http address.

Replacing ""img_" with "http://www.sjk4u.com/images/ST&20JOHN/SWEATERS/176/IMG_ for instance.

This shouldn't take long once you've got the hang of it.
