Answered appxupload failing - wrong version of windows?

  • jueves, 26 de julio de 2012 4:27

Getting the following error on appxupload in the Packages section of submission. Even tried previous version that had previous submitted fine to the store on 7/12. Am I now missing a new version of Windows? Anyone else seen this problem?

Validation error:   This package wasn't built for the current version of Windows. Install the current version of Windows and build the package again.

I have the same problem. The package actually uploaded fine, but clicking "Submit for certification" gave the error "One or more of your app's packages weren't built for the current version of Windows. Install the current version of Windows and build the packages again."

If something changed, it must have happened during the minutes between the upload (which went OK with the green checkbox, etc.) and pressing the submission button. Could it be that Microsoft is switching the requirement to the RTM build as we are writing this?

We are getting this same error. We are using Windows 8 Release Preview (Version 6.2 Build 8400) and Visual Studio Professional 2012 RC. I'm also wondering if they are switching the requirement to RTM for the upload validation.

That's exactly what I was guessing. Based on another thread on May 25th and reading a little into it, I think maybe this happened in the days before the last release.

Same problem here. I also think it's because RTM was signed off and the Store is being prepared for it. However, I see no reason that people on Release Preview (or other older/newer builds) can't upload packages since RP and VS2012 RC have go-live licenses.

A couple of us think it will not work until the next version of Windows is available. Still, I've been trying nightly.

On Twitter, there's been chatter that the RTM will be next week some time. That sounds promising but I don't know when that will be available to developers.

An alternate solution would be nice but I'm doubtful.

I tried to upload my appxupload file for the first time, but I got the same error!

I would also be very happy to get a solution for it.

Because  I am on holidays for the next weeks with only a mobile Internet account, there is no chance for me to download several 100 MB's for a new Windows- or Visual Studio Version :-(

    Best greetings from Germany.

The store is being closed intentionally for a few days for a reason I'm not allowed to disclose. When the time comes, there will be new instructions about how to upload app packages. There are no solutions at the moment, but it won't last long so just sit back and wait.

p.s. I'm not a Microsoft employee, but I'm told this from someone in some team working on Windows 8 in Microsoft.

I've been talking with several different people at Microsoft about this and just got word that it is an "RTM Blackout".  Basically, it means that you have to compile your app on RTM to be able to upload it to the store.

Thanks for validating that. It's good to know we were on the right track.

Can you ask those same folks when developers can expect to be able to download a copy of the Windows RTM? :)

Yeah it sucks we have to wait until the 15th to download the new version, but happy for Windows 8 coming.

2 more weeks before we can modify our code for the RTM version and submit again.

I think, it's completly hard-nosed and arrogant from those guys at Microsoft, to close the marketplace without giving any informations to us developers a few days before, so that we could plan the uploading processes before the closing ...

Again a very negative point in the relationship between Microsoft and the customers or specially us developers! The so called partnership between Microsoft and the developers is only a worthless phrase and it seems, that the developers are nothing worth to Microsoft!

Surely the early closing was planned long before. If it was only a mistake, it would be very easy to reopen the uploading again for the next 2 weeks with the actual Win 8 build, in simply commenting out the if-clause, which takes us the chance, to upload our apps now!

Unfriendly greetings from me to the responsible guys at Microsoft!

I can't believe they are going to make us wait 15 days before we can submit an app again.

I am also getting the same error. Given the RTM timeline MS just announced today, seems like we have to wait until Aug-15 to download and install the RTM and then to recompile our app with it to be able to upload to the Windows 8 Store.

The last few days have been an exciting time here at Microsoft. As you may have seen, we recently announced that Windows 8 has gone RTM.  This is an important milestone along the journey to the release of Windows 8. However to get there, we have had to do some work in the background to get the Windows Store ready.  As a developer, you may have noticed, that you were getting an error when trying to upload your App. This was down to the work that was taking place. The version of the Windows Store you are now seeing is the RTM version.

With the Store now using this version, we are now working on ensuring that our developers are able to submit RTM versions of their Apps. On August 15th we will be making the RTM build available that will allow our developers to do this. We hope that you will bear with us. We appreciate how eager you are to get your App into the Store, we are too. Please keep an eye on the Building Windows 8 Blog  Thanks.

What's a Windows 8 developer to do while waiting 3 weeks for the windows store to reopen for submissions?

    Tweaker

And like 5 Windows Phone apps too....

    I'm loving Windows 8,

Would be nice if people who have a token or submission in progress could get a copy of RTM so we can continue what we've been working toward. I'll have to block out some time, maybe take a day or two off work to make sure I get these 2 apps rebuilt and submitted on RTM quickly before the store closes for something else.

    Let's go Windows 8!

    mark_1h,

    Thanks for the official words.

Like ondeamndcommercials suggests, if there's any way the tokened developers could get the RTM sooner, that'd be great. I'm not complaining b/c having the token got me started a little early but I started the process of getting the token back in May and it seems, despite all that effort, here we are only getting to submit a couple weeks early (if that) by the time we get the RTM.

This is, of course, to be expected when we get this opportunity...it's a two way street but, it'd be nice to move forward sooner since we've already been trying to submit for weeks.

Will Windows 8 RTM be enough (with the Visual Studio 2012 RC), or will we also need Visual Studio 2012 RTM for submissions to be accepted? I heard that even builds done with Visual Studio 2012 RC on Windows 8 RTM (build 9200) give the "This package wasn't built for the current version of Windows" validation error.

If you would like to retain this under your control until August 15 while also solving the immediate needs of developers, why not make available a special Azure VM RTM image for developers to build their apps? This would even promote the new Azure VM features!

    Hi, guys.

I probably should've posted yesterday but just remembered.  I installed the Windows 8 RTM and VS 2012 RTM, built, and uploaded to the store and it worked. Certification went very quickly too--guess there's not too much activity yet.

Hope everyone's having the same luck.

    Thanks

Are you also using Visual Studio 2012 RTM? If you are using a pre-release version of Visual Studio 2012 it will give the above, even if using a RTM version of Windows 8

    Oliver,

If you have the Windows 8 RTM already, you can get VS 2012 here (look under "Download the tools and SDK" for the "Download now") :

    Hi, Oliver.

Have you tried? I really thought that was the point.  In fact, on the details for VS 2012 Express RTM, it says:

"Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8 is your tool to build Metro style apps for Windows 8."

Yes, I tried. The menu option "Anwendungspaket erstellen..." (sorry, my system is german) was grayed out. So I uninstalled VS RTM Express and installed VS RC Profesional. But of course I couldn't upload the package from VS RC. I think i have to wait until I can get VS RTM Prof. vom Dreamspark.

    Oliver,

You may be right but it's probably worth mentioning that I noticed the store options grayed out when I didn't expect it from time to time.  I found that right clicking on the project and using the "Store" (or similarly named in English) submenu on the project context menu always works. I suspect it's sometimes grayed out on the main menu b/c it doesn't know which project I'm referring to.

I also had a very quick certification. I got my token in may, I went home to sign up for the store and it was closed. I submitted after it opened again, sat in certification for a few weeks, they failed it for 1.1, then closed the store again. This time, I blocked some time right after the release, got my app working again and submitted on 2nd day. App passed certification the same day.

This is extremely frustrating. Why would they have us making apps in the Consumer/Release previews if we can't upload those apps to the store? What a load....
  • jueves, 20 de septiembre de 2012 19:32

    Hi Griffinfujioka,

The libraries that the apps depend on were changing. That is part of participating in a preview program, you must accept that things will be changing under your feet. At the time each of those previews was the latest you could upload apps to the store with each of them so it's not that you could never upload one from Consumer preview, you just can't now that the official version has been released to manufacturing. At this point you can have confidence building your app on RTM that you won't have to port it over to the next version of the preview.
