So, will there be a big update for developer preview systems or will I need to do a clean install? (not really a big deal as I use my laptop for goofing off mostly)

I'm not certain, but upgrades like this usually require a clean install.

I'm pretty stoked myself. I can barely wait! I'm going to fresh install my developer tablet.

    Thanks,

In place upgrades with prerelease versions are not supported. To install the Windows 8 Consumer Preview you will have to download the ISO and completely reinstall Windows, then reinstall all your programs.

Before reinstalling Windows make sure to backup your personal files.

You will need to do a clean install.  Best option is to delete the existing Windows 8 partitions and start fresh.
