AppFabric on Windows 8 Release Preview

Question

Any word on support for Windows 8 Release Preview?  Installer blocks at this point; hard to tell if there is a technical reason for it.

Whats the exact error you are facing ? If its a .net version error, you can install .net 3.5

Our win8 support story is as follows :

AppFabric 1.1 is not supported on the Windows 8 Server Beta. We will provide guidance about running AppFabric on Windows 8 Server for customers once the final release of Windows 8 Server is available via our blog and documentation.

"Windows Server AppFabric is not supported on current operating system Windows 8 Release Preview(version 6.2.8400.0). Please refer to installation guide for the list of supported operating systems."

We are beyond beta at this point with both Windows 8 and Server 2012 in release candidate phases.  I would expect at minimum a CTP/beta of the next rev to be available at this point.  The blog has no indication of any development, let alone next steps.

Personally I find future OS blocking a poor choice.  I would be happy with a warning that it has not been tested, but as a developer I'm willing to take the risk to continue to develop on the latest bits.  I do not see any evidence of the caching piece being integrated tightly into the OS layer so I'm not sure why I am being blocked from installing it.

I think the OP is referring to Windows 8 and not Windows 8 Server

I too am getting this error on Windows 8 Enterprise retail.

Hi,

Which version of Win8 Enterprise are you referring to here?  AppFabric install works fine on the RTM version of the OS.
