if you are a new member, read the following guidelines for better support.

    1. when starting a new thread ( by clicking Ask a question ),

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/ask.png

you have a choice to choose the type, as a question or as a discussion .

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/ask_options.png

the difference is that, a question, pertains to getting a solution to your vb.net problem, while a discussion, pertains to just having to discuss something and not really needing an answer in return.

more than often, ask a question, is the proper selection.

    2. DO NOT DOUBLE POST

if you would like quick solutions for answers regarding your questions, please do not double post.
and if you do, when confronted about it, do apologize for doing so, and do not do the same again.
you will get better results and future replies from those members, stating such as, 'caught you double posting, that's a no-no'.

    3. getting quicker and better replies

when posting a question, be as specific as possible with exactly what it is you want to achieve.
    ex.
'i would like to resize the text, how do i do so?'
text can be found as a caption, in a textbox, a file, on this forum, etc. the list goes on.

if you were to post a question as,
    ex.
'i would like to resize the text in my textbox and at the same time resize the button's text , how is this possible?'
since this is far more specified and detailed, 99% of the time, your first few replies, if not the first, will answer your question.

    4. respect the members' time

when getting your question answered, do not abandon the thread without marking the correct reply as an answer .
you can mark more than one reply as an answer.  that is if you end up having new questions that pertain to your question title, or if the replies suggest different options that result in the same solution.
this selection is located at the bottom section of the repliers' post.

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/mark_as_answer.png

mark the helpful replies as helpful, even if it is not your post and you are just reading it, but find of use.

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/helpful.png

this can be easily located, so i need not explain where you can locate this option.
and a thank you, is always welcomed. ;o)  and so is a smile.

    5. do SUPPLY CODE whenever possible, to better understand your question and replies.  even if the code does not work, but needs to be modified.

to add your code to the question post or as a reply, locate the Insert Code Block button.

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/insert_code.png

click and paste/insert your code.  then select the proper language format to be displayed.

    http://trujade.com/my%20msdn/images/code_block_language.png

you can preview it, or just click Insert to add the code to your post.

    6. when ADDING IMAGES in a post.

if you do not know how to add images, follow the link in the posted reply included in this thread by
    John Anthony Oliver .
here is the link to his post otherwise:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vbgeneral/thread/33bf2119-5f56-40b2-a689-d437ec09e550

    about the images...
    6.1  adding the images..
if you add images in a post, make sure that it is not just the image that describes your problem, and your post describes it along as well..
add complete and detailed information about the image and what needs to be readjusted/fixed, etc.
this is just in case the image does not display correctly, at all, or the reader has all the images blocked by their webbrowser. (personally, i am still trying to figure this out for my vb.net application. ;o)
this way, the reader still has the idea of what your question is about.

adding images to posts, if needed, does help quite a lot.

    6.2  crop the images..
by adding an image of your entire desktop does not help in many ways.
first, the thread loads slower, and second, it is not professional.
this is microsoft's msdn forum, not look at my desktop, i have nice wallpaper
forum , and can you locate my problem? we are not playing "where's waldo?" even if your age is 2, be professional.

to crop images, just about any image editor is capable of doing so.
even the default paintshop program in windows 7, allows this cropping option.
if you need a good default image editor, i could not offer a better solution than this:

    http://www.getpaint.net/

i do not need to add examples for the reasons.  should be understandable just by the information provided.

    7. avoid non useful replies

if a reply consists of what you should , to not of how you should do what your are trying to achieve, if it is not of help, do overlook the reply.

    8. using improper language..

by default, the msdn forums, will blank out just about any foul language added to a post, as, ____.. just about.. some do get away with missing letters, other symbols, etc..

please refrain from doing so, and before you type in anything that will be replaced by a ____, add the  _____ yourself.
should give you the feeling of respect for others, even if they are 2.  you can also modify it to where the ____ leads away, but remains understandable..
    ex.
my _____ textbox is not ____, where i can not add ____ ___ ___ -___...___-___ , and all that stuff to it..
    how do i fix this..
should give a giggle to the reader and an understanding that you are upset or frustrated..
my suggestion for the ex. would be:
my happy textbox is not happy , where i can not add the new happy -happy ...joy -joy , and all that stuff to it.
    how do i fix this..

i think it means that the textbox is not responding correctly, where it can not add other text to it, maybe from a file?
so, i would be more than happy to help.

not a very good example, probably because this is a discussion and not a question post, or maybe i just do not use such, so my example is ____ and ___.
    you figure it out.

the above information should be of use.

if you have found this post helpful, do mark it from the helpful link, you now should know how.
this is just a way of letting me know that my time dedicated towards the forum, was indeed, helpful.

i, as a member, took my time to add this information to better the forum.  so this post is, in my opinion, mine, and you may do as you please otherwise.  it is a public forum.
i hope you will do the same whenever something you decide is useful to yourself and everyone else here on Microsoft's msdn visual basic forum.

Additionally it is better if all forum members do not reply with lots of short replies to every post in a thread too.
