Is it possible to expose the Team Discussion Board to the Public web site and make it writable? Failing that, does anyone know if there are plans for a Forum module?
You have to have a Live ID to access any of the business applications. And the owner of the site has to specifically give your Live ID permission to access a business application. The List and Forms modules have this permission but the code to make that happen is internal, so you can't reuse it on your own site.
Business applications are just sites with SharePoint lists so you could use the Lists Web Service to write to any of the lists in a business application. But what Live ID do you use? You can't expect visitors to the public site to know the Live ID and password. Your code has to know it or know how to retrieve it. So if you were writing your own ASP.NET site, you could theoretically have it read and write to the Team Discussion Board. But if you are using an Office Live site, I don't know of any way to expose it to the public site.
So the short answer to your question is not really.
