Cannot update MSDN

Question

I have MSDN April 2003 and I downloaded the MSDN update October 2003 (MSDNVSsp1-KB827819-X86-Enu). But it always says:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing etc...".

Please tell me a solution.

Hi

According to the instruction on the download site you need MSDN library for Visual Studio 2003 (RTM) on the machine for the October 2003 update to work.  Please see below the instructions.

 

The MSDN Library for Visual Studio .NET 2003 must be present on your computer before you can install the October 2003 Visual Studio .NET Documentation Update. To install the MSDN Library, insert the MSDN Library for Visual Studio .NET 2003 compact disc that is included with Visual Studio .NET 2003, and run Setup.exe.

This documentation update is also included in the MSDN Quarterly Library - October 2003 or later that is available to MSDN subscribers. If you already have one of these libraries present on your computer, you do not need to install this documentation update.
