    Hello,

We want to be able to add a new field called 'Due Date' in Bug and Task work items. I believe, its only there in Issue work item by default.

What will happen if i add a new field to the Bug, Task work items called 'Due Date' like in Issue work item. Are there any equivalent field(s) in Bug and Task work items that are used for same purpose?

    Please Advise.

    Thanks,

    Rashmi

    Hi Rashmi,

Thank you for posting in our MSDN Forum. I will be working with you on this post.

From your description, I notice the issue you are experiencing is that you confuse that if we can add Due Date field in Bug and Task Work Item Type. We will be working together to solve this issue, so please feel free to let me know if I have misunderstood anything.

I think that your TFS’ version is 2010. The Due Date field Work Item control and the Reference Name:Microsoft.VSTS.Scheduling.DueDate are predefined in TFS2010, we can add this field in any Work Item Type if we want. When we add this field in Work Item Type and save successfully, the Change in Work Item Type will be save into the Database on our Server.

To customize work item types, we can apply some UI tool to help us. We can download and install TFS Power Tools on the client. To download TFS Power Tools 2010 at: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/3e8c9b68-6e39-4577-b9b7-78489b5cb1da or go to Tools menu in your VS2010, and open Extension Manager… to download  and install.

After installed TFS Power Tools, launch Team Explorer, go to Tools menu>>  Process Editor>> Work Item Types>> Open WIT from Server, open the Select Work Item Type dialog box to select which type you want to customize.

Below is an example for add the Due Date field in Bug Work Item:

     1  New a field:

2  Add this field in From and save:

3  Create a new bug using this Work Item Type:
