Unable to start the development storageUI locally.

I'm trying to get an existing ASP.NET 3.5 Web Application up and running in Azure with a web role.
But all I get after a deployment is "Connection Failed".
A type of message you get when your internet is down or something.

I have followed this guide for migrating my site: http://blogs.msdn.com/jnak/archive/2009/02/05/using-an-existing-asp-net-web-application-as-a-windows-azure-web-role.aspx

Just to see so that anything would work I coded a simple web application from scratch and deployed it the same way as my real site, this time with success.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Based on the Keyno Azure will support (soon) VM based model (where i can install configure legacy or hybrid applications). I am trying to find answer for the following Qs.

1. Will VM allow to install my choice of SQLserver and continue to use instead of SQL Azure
2. If VM supported what is the purpose of converting applications to current Azure/SQLAzure model.

Hi,
Am trying to migrate the SQL Server 2008 database(local) to SQL AZURE. I found two approaches for to achieve this:
1. SQL Azure Migrate Wizard tool(http://sqlazuremw.codeplex.com/)
2. SQL AZURE samples given in WindowsAzurePlatformKit (NOV CTP).

For the second approach... i was unable to attach AdventureWorksLT2008 database after installing SQL2008.AdventureWorks_All_Databases.x86.msi

For the first approach... followed almost all steps but SQL script is not getting.

Please suggest me a way to migrate the database schema. Which approach is better to use..?

What is this about Central Management Servers object in SSMS?

In the pre_October CTP when you connect to SQL Azure your database was shown under the group, Central Management Servers. After the October CTP you still see this object in SSMS and you see two nodes, one for pre-October and one for the October server. However you get an error (Data is NULL) if you try to expand these nodes. You can see the databases in the October CTP (only in the drop-down) just below New Query, but you don't see the database objects. Now, how do I get rid of this Central Management Servers and succeed in seeing the database objects created in the October CTP? Do I have to get another SQL Azure Token to get the November update to SQL Azure?

Can't Access Azure SQL from within the cloud

Hi, maybe somone can help me or point me in the right direction.

I created an application which connects to SQL Azure.
Added my IP my in the Firewall Settings and also the IP Range 0.0.0.0 - 0.0.0.0 for Microsoft Services

All is running fine in the fabric. (I can connect to the SQL Azure Server)

If I deploy the application to the cloud, (I can't connect to SQL Azure Server)

I get

Exception: Cannot open server 'myservername' requested by the login. Client with IP address '65.52.10.48' is not allowed to access the server.

Hi,
Am very new to SQL AZURE. Am following the SQL AZURE samples given in WindowsAzurePlatformKit (NOV CTP).
Am trying to Migrate a Database Schema to SQL Azure.
Installed SQL2008.AdventureWorks_All_Databases.x86.msi to attach AdventureWorksLT2008 database to my local SQL Server.
But after installation i could not find AdventureWorksLT2008 database in the SQL Server(logged in as administrator also logged in as local user).
Please suggest me any extra steps to follow..

Just trying to get started with a connection....

I was able to create a database using the Web-based Server Administration page. When I try to Add a Connection in VS 2008, the "Test Connection" succeeds, but I get the error:

Invalid object name 'sys.configurations'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 208)

The same error occurs when trying to connect in SQL Server 2008 Management Studio.

At one point, I got this error:

Unable to add data connection in Server Explorer:

The current user account was invoked with SETUSER or SP_SETAPPROLE. Changing databases is not allowed.

How to receive an invitation code for SQL Azure when you are already connected to SQL Azure

I registered for Azure way back in Nov 2008, but I never got an invitation code for SQL Azure (or maybe I missed it). Since I am already "connected" to SQl Azure, I can't seem to find a way to request an invitation. Any ideas?

I can't do myDB..myTable in a stored procedure :(

Let's say I have 5 tables in one 1 GB db called MainDB. And all my db logic is in stored procedures. Some of these tables will grow faster than others and be hotter than others. So as my app scales I was planning on breaking those tables out into there own databases.
And then just change the table references in the MainDB's stored procedures and update my app web.config. Done.
But I just tested this idea out and you can't do db..table reference in a stored procedure.
Now I have to write more web code and do more trips back and forth from app to db to accomplish something that could have been so easy.

Will this restriction be lifted in the future? If not, why?

We are able to connect to sql azure database from the web application and perform some actions. when launched from visual strudio it is working fine but when web application is IIS hosted, we are not able to connect to sql azure database.

I have installed the new Sql Server 2008 R2 Management Studio (November CTP). When attempting to connect to my Sql Azure database I get the following error: Error connecting to 'tcp:xxxxxxxxx.ctp.database.windows.net'.

Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: context (ObjectExplorer)

I can still connect to my sql azure database using the New query dialog, as before.

I would like to add that the account I am trying to connect to was created a few months ago, so it is under an earlier CTP. Is that relevant? I only ask because the sql azure team blog seems to suggest that Sql Azure accounts are under a new system (http://blogs.msdn.com/ssds/default.aspx)

I am looking to change a Windows Mobile app to use SQL Azure. This is a retail product. Does the license for Azure SQL allow for retail distribution of programs that access Azure SQL? Any caveats I should be aware of?

My intention is to release soon, and then migrate to release Azure SQL when it is released.

Can not connect to SQLAzure. Got Timeout exception

This morning we got "SqlException (0x80131904): Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding" this morning. Our app was working fine yesterday. We even dropped and created the database, we still got the same time out exception. We have two databases under same account. When we do "Test Connectivity", one of them passed. The other one got "login failed" error. But we can use the same credential to access that database vis ssms.Please help. Our database connection string is:n17t66v04a.database.windows.net.

I am getting following error while trying to connect to SQL Azure from Windows Azure.
I have added Microsoft services to firewall settings as well but still get this error.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open server 'g55dluxxxxx' requested by the login. Client with IP address '65.52.5.1xx' is not allowed to access the server.

Where Can I get all classes related to Azure SQL

Hello Sir,

I am student. Trying to build simple app on azure SQL as part of my project.

I came to know about all classes related to other Azure Services from 'NetServicesSDK". But it does not contain any SQL Azure related classes.
From my reading, I came to know that Azure SQL is actually REST api based.. So you use ADO.net classes with pre built classes (build by ms in samples) to do that functionality.

I have also tried to run code given below this How Do I video.
But, even though my SDK is fully updated (till NOV), its giving me errors like few assemblies are not found. I have also tried to replace them from Azure SDK folder. But no use.

So Please tell me following things, so that I can get familier with Azure.
1) Where do i get all classes related to azure sql (link to msdn entry would be nice) [Class Name along with methods]
2) Why this sample is not working. Even I have tried to write the code as mentioned in this video . Still no luck? What I am doing wrong??

State 08S01 'Communincation Link Failure'

I'm connecting with SQL Server Native client. My app mostly works OK. But for specific scenarios I am getting State 08S01 'Communication Link Failure' errors. It does not seem like a network problem. Not random. The same test fails repeatedly in the same place. If I try to isolate the part of the test that fails and run separately, it works OK. Anyone with ideas of what this error might be?

Linking Microsoft Access to Azure

I have been linking an Access 2007 database to SQL Azure.

I now have pass-through queries working and that works very well.

I want to have linked tables working , but whatever method I try I come up against the problem that the ODBC links fail to get generated when it attempts to get at master..sysdatabases. Both when generating links in code and using the built in features. So the ODBC connection tests fine and can be used in pass-through, but not as a linked JET table.

I am not looking for any work-arounds, but only how to make the linked tables work.

Has anyone managed to make this work?

I also noticed that other people had this issue in a different context, so I am also wondering if this will be possible in the future?

I have also noticed that the pass-through channel also works for the standard SQL Server driver in addition to Native Client 10.0

I can connect the SQL AZURE database from my MMC but when I'm trying to invoke a webservice which checks the user login I'm getting an Windows logins are not supported in this version of SQL Server. I have configure the web.config to the connection string provided by the sql azure.Can anyone help me.

It looks like Project Huron (in part) is finally here! We have designed a windows forms app to read a local sql compact database file. We want to be able to publish this to SQL Azure and then be able to sync. I don't see that capability yet. Am I mistaken? Can we not publish the sql compact database file to SQL Azure?

Hi,

I am trying to move my database (including all the data inside the database) from my SQL Azure Account
to another SQL Azure (this account belongs to my friend).

I dont have the SQL Scripts nor the Insert Scripts for the database in my account.

Is there any other ways that can be done?

I tried to use the SQL Azure Migration Wizard but i am unable to connect to my account in the first place,
it will give me an error statting "Unable to cast object from System.DBNull to System.String.
