how do I uninstall "Management Tools - Basic in SQL Server 2008 R2?  The regular remove program does not have this option highlighted.    I am trying use some of the advance option and learn something more and now ssms is useless.         the discovery report tells me these are installed but I have no way of uninstalling.  .  I want to replace this with my developer edition that I purchased but have lots of trouble installing because of the express version.  Please help.  I'd really appreciate it. Look for the "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2" option in the program and features view from the control panel. If you run this setup, you have the option to uninstall/change. When you select "Remove", you should eventually get the option to select the instance. Select the SQLEXPRESS instance and then click Next. You'll see a list of features that you can remove. They will all be unchecked. Check the "Management Tools - Basic" and potentially other features that you want to remove, and then click Next. Then just follow the steps to uninstall.

If this experience doesn't match what you are seeing, possibly look to see if you have other versions of SQL Server installed. On the programs and features dialog, use the search feature to type "SQL Server" and see which versions you have. The other thing to look to see if you have multiple instances of express installed on your machine during the uninstall dialogs?

    Hi Perric,

I am a little confused about “The regular remove program does not have this option highlighted”, did you run the uninstallation via the program and features from the control panel? According to my understanding, during the remove SQL Server 2008 progress, in Select Features page, you noticed the ‘Management Tools - Basic’ was not highlighted. If it is not, please correct me.

One possible reason for the problem that we cannot uninstall SQL Server Express is that SSMSEE.msi file is corrupt. As a workaround, please download the SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi file from the link below and point the installer to this file and continue with the uninstallation.

Besides, would you please read the article below, hope this will help:

To further investigation, please collect the error messages logged into the setup log files which are located in the %Program files%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup bootstrap\Log\<YYYYMMDD_HHMM>\. folder. For more information about how to View and Read SQL Server Setup Log Files, please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143702.aspx.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

    Hello!

SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi works not with "Management Tools - Basic in SQL Server 2008".

Management Tools - Basic for SQL Server 2008 R2 not available after the search I have performed.

Try of installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 resulted in an endless loop of the installation process.

After more than 12 hours I interrupted the installation and started another try with the English version and also negative result.

Between these installations I tried to install Management Tools - Basic for SQL Server 2008.

After that discovery report nevertheless told me English and German version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2 are installed and Management Tools - Basic for SQL Server 2008.

I could get rid of English and German version of SQL Server 2008 Express R2, but not of Management Tools - Basic for SQL Server 2008.

Removal, maintenance and new install result in the disappearing of the second installation window.

Trying to Remove the Setup Support Files of SQL Server 2008 Express R2 gives a window containing the message SQL Server 2008 database service is still present. Removal fails every time.

    Best regards
