have vista but feel let down by office programs as doesnt seem to be any. I wish could have my xp office back any suggestions?

Hi guys first time for me and am no expert so keep it in laymans terms please.
I used to love my xp office package. I am a teacher and was great for making worksheets with pictures etc. Have now bought a new desktop with vista and my beautiful world came crashing down with the knowledge that vista has almost non existent features as regards to this. I have tried to rectify this by downloading ms office works but this is not what office was on my xp so i tried "open office" which is no good either. i have now realised that windows 7 is out so feel ripped off. Can you tell me what was going on when they made vista and how can i get the same xp office package as before without paying through the nose again as feel that microsoft have taken my money for vista then will take my money again for a better office package (good for microsoft but not the consumer) i would have though that in the innovative computer world that vista would have been a better upgrade than xp but its seems the opposite and it went backwards. I do hope i havnt missed something on my computer where all the features are hiding so if i have i apologise in advance and will gladly eat humble pie. My compiter is 64bit and i dont have my old windows 97 disks. Any help or suggestions welcome. Cheers

Are there any MS Office 2003 professionals out there...I have a mail merge question in which Excel and Word are being used.

I have an excel spreadsheet that contains the following headers: First Name (Teacher), Last Name (Teacher), Email (Teacher), and Last Name (Student). I am attempting to send each teacher a list of students. In the Excel spreadsheet, the teacher info is duplicated many times (because they have many students), but the student info is not (students only have one teacher).

How can I accomplish this? I am not an expert.

My rather new HP laptop with Vista had a virus and the operating system had to be reinstalled. Office 2003 was loaded on the machine previous to the virus. I can't reinstall ... have the Upgrade disk and was asked to install Office 97 which I did but then the upgrade to 2003 will not work. It goes all the way through the process including asking for product code and then gets to "Now Installing Office" but nothing happens ... no activity on the Installation Progress screen. Please help.

Hi,

My company is actually using Office Live Small Business for out website our email addresses, i.e. www.company.com and accounts like user1[at]company.com , user2[at]company.com , etc.
We would like to migrate all our email addresses to BPOS , but as BPOS does not provide any website solution, we would like to keep our actual website on OfficeLive, i.e. :
- www.company.com (Office Live)
- user1[at]company.com , user2[at]company.com (BPOS)

I couldn't find a way or documentation to achieve this, but i'm sure it's possible ;-)
How could we do this ?

When I try to set the correct time via control panel Date/Time I get a message that I do not have the privilige for this operation. However I have full administrator rights on my PC. I have XP sp3 as OS

import file in MS access 2000

I am trying to import a file created by a collegue in MS access and saved in MS 2000 format. My own files work fine in my MS Access 2000.

When I try to open the fileI first get a message "The database 'Name Version 2000' is read only". When I click OK I get a new screen with the message" Microsoft Access was unable to create the Database window. Please upgrade to a newer version of Microsoft Internet Explorer"

Howevere I have MS IE 8 so there is no later version.

Can anyone help me with a suggestion how to solve this problem??

Excel 2007 on Vista when double clicking on file of type xls, or xlsx does not open file - reports error - "Windows cannot find file...."

Hi,

I am running Excel 2007 on Microsoft Vista SP2. If I am in Windows exploer or outlook and I try to open a file of tpye xls, or xlsx by double clicking on it I get an error "Windows cannot find file....Make sure you typed the file name correctly, and then try again".

I can open the file if I start excel first, and then open the file using the Open file option.

This feature did used to work!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Creating a new web site when already having a website

I have an Office Live web site and I just purchased another domain name to add another web site. The problem is when I try to go to the Page Manager for the new web site it takes me to the old web site page manager. I can't seem to find a way to get to the page manager to create the new site. Also if I type in the domain name of the new page in the URL bar it takes me to the old web site.

I'm guessing that I should have created this new site under the use of a different e-mail address, which I have since done that, but I still can't seem to find a way to get to the page manager for the new site and start creating my pages.

We are planning to use mail merge feature to generate documents, and we want to use IF Field to minimize our documentation template. we created the IF Field in the template like the following:

{IF {MERGEFIELD abc} ="abc" "abc" "bcd"}

the if condition expression contains one merge field, once we insert the IF Field like this, after update the field, the merge field just become invisible. which makes the expression very difficult to understand, anyone have idea how to make it visible in the template?

Mail merge probs with access

Can anyone tell me how to mail merge from an access query rather than a table? I have tried to merge it from the query but it keeps telling me that mail merge can't run as the database is in exclusive mode, close and re open that doesnt work. If I use word it says there is no data, I have to go into the table and click on the customers that I want to get it to merge. this is very time consuming as I only want to merge about 150 customers out of a database of thousands!

Instead of going Format...case change...uppercase or lowercase. I recommend it be a C on the toolbar next to bold because it needs to be used regularly.

Image quality distorted after installing office 2007 update KB969682

Hello All,

I have found some image quality issues in my Excel output after installing this update.

Following are details of my problem:

Scenario Before installing the KB969682 Update:

I have an Excel file with a sheet that contains chart/image objects and some cell values that overlap each together.

I programmatically (using a macro) copy this entire range selection, and paste as picture into another sheet. Here it works perfectly, i.e. quality and alignment of new image matches the original selection.

After installing the Update:

The quality as well as alignment of new image does not match the original selection. The line chart’s line width is much thicker in copied picture as compared to the original chart. There are some alignment issues as well.

After uninstalling this update it works fine again.

This problem is not documented in the update details. There’s a very similar symptom however.

May I know the problem with this update, and the solution, if any?

Question:

I would like to know where in Exchange Server 2007 enterprise edition can i change the Calendar availability look.

Example:
I want to reserve a meeting with someone in my company, by using calendar in outlook 2003 to see his availiabilty. The problem is, that I can see he's availability only till november, but I would like to arrange a meeting in December. I guess there is one setting on Exchange server, which allows to see availability of someone, only for 2 next months, but not further then that.

I am having troubles importing my AUTOTEXT from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. I have the Normal.dot, and the import works for WORD 2007, but not Outlook 2007. Anyone have any idea's on how to do this, been working on this on and off for a couple of weeks researching the topic but no fix for this problem. Thanks in advance.

Block Bold issue

I have a problem with Microsoft Word (Office 2003) in that if a section of text is highlighted and made BOLD, then the whole document is made BOLD. Ctrl-Z can remove the BOLD from non-highlighted text, but how do I switch this setting off, so that only the selected area is made BOLD?

Hi! I work together with a couple of schools which use the live@edu product from Microsoft.
Here is Outlook live available - for free - for the schools, this is not the "simple" hotmail stuff, but a real hosted exchange.
Will this product be available for non-edu customers too?
I think in the business market this is much more need for the hosted exchange ...

Access Can't Open SQL Server Table

I am trying to import a SQL Server database into an Access database. There are around 40 or 50 tables in the databsae. I'm able to import the first fifteen or so, but then after that, I receive the following error:

"Cannot open database <TABLENAME>. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt."

These aren't databases, but tables, and why would other tables import just fine? I've run a DBCC CHECKDB and the database itself is fine.

Not sure what the scoop is here...

Problem using the Form function in Word

Hi All,

I've only just learnt how to create a form in word (2007) and have run into a problem. On my form I have a combination of drop down menus and plain text (where I want a free text field). When I save the document and re-open to test I run into a problem where by if I use the drop down menus before entering the plain text fields it locks these plain text fields. Where as if I fill out the plain text field before using the drop down menus it works fine. Is there some link between the two? I have tried looking in the properties of the plain text field but couldn't see much that I could change.

If anyone has any suggestions then I would really appreciate it.

I was recently upgraded to office 2007 from 97; In Excel I have a list of cells each containing hyperlinks to other documents. In office 97 I used to copy (cntl-C) these cells containing the hyperlink to PowerPoint and the URL path in the hyperlink would copy as is; With Office 2007 the copy coverts the imbedded URL in the hyperlink to the current file path making the hyperlink useless

I do not use Outlook Express. I need to copy some MSN e-mail folders from my desktop to a flash drive. Every answer I've seen (and there haven't been many addressing this question) assumes that Outlook Express is the default. On a sheet with economic data, after changing the sum factors the sum value doesn't get updated. No macros are active and the formula SUM (A1:A8) is correct....

Even after a "refresh all", nothing changes.

Hi,

I am using MS Word 2003 and MS Soap toolkit 2003 to connect to Siebel CRM, WebService... and i am able to establish a communication between Siebel and Word 2003.
but usually the first time in a day, i run my word program to connect to Siebel, it gives me a message connection timeout... and i get this message 2 or 3 times and then it starts working fine.... Is there a way i could overcome this error message or maybe can i increase the timeout period at my end(MS word). so as to avoid getting that message the first time in the day.........
