    I have been trying to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and it has failed every time.  It always fails to connect to the host to download the necessary files.  I am trying to install it because I need it to install a different program(WFBS Manager 3.0.1 RTW x86).  This is the link to the product:

    When installing that program it automatically tries to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.  It says, "Downloading Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1"  The next line says "Download Failed: connecting to host"  The 3rd and final line says "Setup failed"  I have assumed it may have been an error with installing Framework 3.5 through the program so I have gone to the Microsoft Website and tried to install it using the software from there.  This is the specific url:

    The setup always loads the installation components and then I agree to the License Agreement.  The program then says Re-establishing connection with the server, it tries this a total of 5 times.  After the 5th try, it says the setup could not download the necessary files, etc.  I first thought that maybe some kind of virius protection or internet protection or whatever it is called has firewalls and only allow certain programs to access the internet, but I do not have any software of that kind running, or even installed.  I have tried restarting my computer and re-downloading the installers multiple times with no luck.  Does anyone have any idea why this is not working?

    Also, sorry if this has been answered, I searched the forum, as well as many others, and found many people having problems installing .NET frameworks 3.5 SP1, but their problems have all been about something else.  I've searched for answers for 3 days now, and just decided to make a post about it.

    Hi Grandmasattack,

    I can understand your worries on your issue. I hope that I can help you solve your problem. :)

    Based on your description, it seems that the process was blocked when it connected to the Internet and downloaded the components.

    Could you please try running .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package) installer in the command line to extract from .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 full install package?
         dotnetfx35.exe /x <extract location>   (For example: D:\dotnetfx35.exe /x <extract location>)
    Then directly run setup.exe /lang:ENU (if on non-English OS).

    Just wanted you to know that I tried what you had suggested to Grandmasattack and it worked for me.  I had the same problem she had.  Another moderator had been helping me but nothing worked until I found this on the internet.  Thank you so much!!!!!

    im also having a the same problem.

    the blog you listed is out of date. the links on it don't work now.

    i checked for a command line on the installer exe but... don't see a place to type it in.

    the other descriptions on the microsoft site are a little....repeatitive, vague and overwhelming.

    could sure use some help here.
