Answered Metro Style Apps not starting

I installed Windows 8 on my machine and it all went fine.
The only issue I'm having is that the Metro Apps aren't starting, the screen with the application icon opens and then the screen goes back to green and then back to the Home Screen.

    Anyone had the same issue?

What is your current screen resolution?  If it's less than 1024x768, then metro style applications won't run; you need a minimum resolution of 1024x768.

If you are running with more than 1024x768, do desktop applications like notepad.exe or Visual Studio Express run?

Same thing happen to me. Everything was absolutely fine and the only app I got to work is IE10. Everything else goes back to green then I have to go back to the home screen.

Not a screen problem by the way. I'm using a 32inch monitor.

By any chance are any of you that are having trouble running your machine in a domain, or are these machines not joined to a domain?

I am having the same trouble I've tried multiple screen resolutions incl 1024x768, 1280x960 and native (1280x1024) but the metro apps only show their splash screen then fade to the green background of the start screen and never launch.

I am running in a domain though. does this have some effect?

The screen resolution on my Touchsmart 600 is 1980 X 1080. None of the Metro Apps work. I have done a clean reinstall, still the same issue.

I also have this installed on a HP notebook, and everything works fine with a screen resolution of 1024 X 768.

I tried to reduce the screen resolution to 1024 X 768 on the Touchsmart PC, but still the Metro Apps does not work.  I was running this PC in a domian, let me know if this is due to this?

    hazbanks,

If you are in a domain you can check to see if AppLocker is enabled.

Do you have any 0x80073D00 errors in the event log?

I've installed Windows Developer Preview on Acer W501. Seems like none of the HTML+JS Metro apps can be started -- while the IE10-metro and CPL-metro run OK (as well as their desktop counterparts and any other desktop app).

Running any of the other metro apps shows the splash, then green background, then the Start screen.

This results in a system eventlog error entry "The server {DB68ED77-A88A-442C-B516-1E465A536241} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." -- once per every failed start. Here the GUID is the CLSID of the Weather.App.wwa activatable class in particular, but it depends on which one you try to start.

    Hi,

Running metro apps shows the splash, then green background, then the Start screen. No message error apperas. Only IE10 run ok.

I have tried with the machine add to a domain and add to a workgroup.

AppLocker is disable both in local machine and in AD.

    My screen resolution is 1440 x 900.

    UAC is enabled

Event Viewer: Event ID: 10001 Source DistributedCOM

This results in a system eventlog error entry "The server {DB68ED77-A88A-442C-B516-1E465A536241} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." -- once per every failed start. Here the GUID is the CLSID of the Weather.App.wwa activatable class in particular, but it depends on which one you try to start.

This event appers each time that I run a metro app.

    Anyone can help me?

    Thanks in advance.

Like the person beneath me, it seems to be related in some way to User Account Control. Every since I turned off UAC I have been having this problem.

    Hi J,

Is this for every app or only one?  Is it running in VS or from the tiles?
