XP damaged/corrupt applications

Question

I have Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002-Service Pack 3.  There are many corrupt/damaged applications and I would like to repair them for better performance.  How can the repairs be made effectively in order to prevent overall future damage to my system?  Thank you.
